The A's are on a four-game losing streak, but they return home for Memorial Day with a date against the Detroit Tigers. It'll be a day game, which is rare both for a Monday and for a series opener, but it's a holiday and day baseball is awesome.
The only not-awesome part of the day game is that Vampire Tommy Milone is starting without the cover of darkness, and he can use all of the cold temperatures and marine layer he can get to keep the ball in the park. Fortunately, he's on a good run lately, having allowed three runs in 19⅔ innings over his last three starts with 14 strikeouts and only four walks. Meanwhile, the Tigers are countering with lefty Drew Smyly, which means that the A's will have their right-handed hitters in the lineup.
Looks like Miguel Cabrera is starting for Detroit after leaving Sunday's game with a hamstring cramp. Keep an eye on his running and mobility today. Still no Nick Punto for the A's, though; Callaspo starts at second again. He's not great there, but the fact that he can at least fake it highlights why he's at least sort of useful to the team.
Let's Go Oakland!
Billy Frijoles will be taking you the rest of the way this afternoon.
