Game Thread #5: A's vs. Mariners

The A's and Mariners continue their series after an unexpected break Friday night, with first pitch from the Coliseum coming at 1:05pm.

Thearon W. Henderson

After yesterday's bizarre rainout, the A's and Mariners will square off in what was supposed to be the third game of their series this afternoon at the Coliseum but in reality is just the second. Last night's game will be made up on a date yet to be determined, but in the meantime we have a game to play today, which has sunny skies and mid-60s temperatures in the forecast.

Last night's pitching matchup has carried over to this afternoon, with Dan Straily still facing longtime A's Felix Hernandez. Straily is making his first start of the regular season, which was originally supposed to come Thursday night but was pushed back a day after Tuesday's rainout. Hernandez, on the other hand, pitched in Seattle's opener against Anaheim. The Mariners won that game, 10-3, despite a first-inning home run from Mike Trout that put King Felix's usual dominant opening-day start in jeopardy.

Let's see if the A's can get out of this weird, Twilight-zone esque stretch of weather and field problems and really get the regular season underway — it's going to feel stunted and awkward until we have baseball on a near-daily basis.
