You might have already heard that The Baseball Project - featuring members of R.E.M., The Dream Syndicate and Young Fresh Fellows - released their third album, titled 3rd, this week. All the songs on it are about baseball, but only one of them is about our Oakland A's. And I can confirm that our rock-and-roll-loving general manager Billy Beane - who's referenced in the song - has heard it and loves it. So I decided to put together a little video for the song filled with highlights from the team's last two seasons and more. So be sure to check it out!
As for my regular Athletics Farm minor league beat, I should be returning with updates every Monday once the season gets going. But in the meantime, I can report that it looks like top prospects Billy McKinney, Daniel Robertson, Matt Olson, Renato Nunez, Bruce Maxwell and Michael Ynoa will all be reporting to Stockton to start the season. Meanwhile, the River Cats starting rotation will be comprised of Arnold Leon, Josh Lindblom, Matt Buschmann and Sean Murphy, with Drew Pomeranz likely to join them once Ryan Cook returns from the disabled list. And in Midland, it looks like the RockHounds are set to go with a rotation of Zach Neal, Drew Granier, Raul Alcantara, Tanner Peters and Chris Jensen, with former starter Murphy Smith moving to the bullpen. News of minor league assignments is still trickling out, so stay tuned for more...but in the meantime, get your Green & Gold groove on for the season!
