Spring Training Game Thread: A's vs. Rangers

Sean Murphy draws the start for Oakland.

There are no pictures of Sean Murphy in the system. This is Josh Lindblom, but you don't know what he looks like either. Just pretend he's Smith for today.

Only a few more games left in spring training! The Athletics have three more Cactus League games in Arizona, then their three-game Bay Bridge Series in Oakland and San Francisco, and then Opening Day next Monday. It's so close I can taste it! (It tastes like an apple, which coincidentally or not is also what I was just eating.)

The A's are taking advantage of today's exhibition game by getting a look at Murphy Smith Sean Murphy. The 25-year-old right-hander spent most of last year in Double-A and could get the call to Sacramento this year as space opens up. He can pile up the strikeouts, and he keeps the walks and homers at reasonable rates. Here is his Baseball-Reference page, if you'd like to see his career minor league stats.

The Rangers have lost more or less their entire team to injury so far this spring, so I'm not really sure who is left to play for them. No word on whether or not they have contacted Nolan Ryan about returning as a starting pitcher to shore up their rotation.
