Game Thread #68: A’s vs. New York Yankees (1)

USA TODAY Sports

After two tight games this series, the Oakland Steamroller looks to continue its assault on the Yankees. On Tuesday, despite Barolo Colon's uncharacteristic 4 walks in a start, the A's jumped out to a 6-0 lead that they would never relinquish, despite late Yankees rallies against Jerry Blevins and Grant Balfour. Wednesdays was more of the same, although again the Yankees mounted a late rally. It was only Brandon Moss' eighth-inning home run and Eric Sogard flat out thieving second base before John Jaso's RBI base hit that put the game mostly out of reach. Indeed, as Ken Korach said on the radio, at least for this series the A's have clearly been the superior team, while the Yankees seem a little flat. Nevertheless, their record is still good, only one back in the loss column to the A's

For today's 12:35PM businessperson's special, the A's will send Jarrod Parker to the mound to hopefully complete the sweep. He's probably happy to face a team not named the White Sox, as he's faced them in two consecutive starts. He'll be opposed by Hiroki Kuroda, who had an uncharacteristically bad start against the Mariners his last time out, giving up 4 runs, 8 hits, and walking 3 on Friday. He's actually had poor starts (compared to his usual self) in 3 of his last 4 outings. Of course, he mixed in 4 hits, and no runs or walks in 7 innings to the Mets during the span, as well.

Here are today's lineups:
