Stop me if you have heard this before: the Angels have started slow in April. Okay, it's only been 6 games for them, but the resemblance to last year is still there, just this time with Mike Trout on the roster. Who's not on the roster, starting today, is Jered Weaver, who was found to have a broken left (non-throwing) elbow that will require a 4-6 week minimum recovery time. Not that it would have mattered for this series, as the A's manage to miss him, but it does matter for the Angels overall. While they have several candidates to replace him, none of them (Garrett Richards or Jerome Williams) screams quality. Indeed, their lack of rotation depth is now being exposed in a big way.
The A's, impressively, have managed to avoid the DL during the regular season at least. After Reddick and Anderson were banged up on during Sundays 9-3 win against the Astros, it does not appear either will hit the DL. Reddick will be out of the lineup tonight, but with C.J. Wilson on the hill for the start, it might have been a good day for Chris Young to start anyway. It is currently unclear whether Anderson will make his next scheduled start or if he will be pushed back a day or two.
Official start time for some lawyerballing is 7:05 PM, apparently on MLB Network if you are an NRAF. Here are the lineups and other goodies:
