Well it looks like not a single team was interested in taking a flier on Barton. Today he passed through waivers unclaimed by 29 teams after the A’s designated him for assignment earlier this week, so he'll head to Triple-A.
Barton has been injured and ineffective since that strong 2010 season, hitting just .209 with one homer and a .604 OPS in 113 games for the A’s. He also never had much power to begin with, which makes things tough for a first baseman,I personally think he needs to work on playing some 3B or possible move back to C as i don't think his bat will ever stick at 1B on a big league roster again.
I wish Barton the best and hope he can salvage some sort of MLB career, but it appears that after clearing waivers today, GM's around the league do not have much confidence he will ever return close to his 2010 form.
