Good morning, Athletics Nation! It is a beautiful day to be an A's fan. The team is on a 6-game winning streak, they've won their last 12 road games, they sit 22 games over .500, and they're right in the thick of the playoff picture with the 4th best record in baseball. What's more, they are one win away from completing a 4-game sweep of the Angels in Anaheim. This last win will be the toughest, though; the only way to get that sweep is to go through Jered Weaver. Luckily, Tommy John surgery apparently did to Brett Anderson what spinach does to Popeye; I'm not sure how to check this, but it is difficult to imagine that anyone has had a more impressive return from TJS than Anderson has had this last month. Just in case you had forgotten, he's got an 0.69 ERA through 4 starts (26 innings), with a 19:3 K:BB ratio and no homers allowed. Holy crap.
The scoreboard watching kicks off early, as the Rays try to avoid being swept by the Orioles in Baltimore (9:35am, Hellickson vs Chen). Later today, the Yankees and Red Sox (4:10pm, Hughes vs Doubront), Indians and Rangers (5:05pm, McAllister vs Holland), and Tigers and White Sox (5:10pm, Verlander vs Sale) will wrap up their respective series as well.
Game time in Anaheim is 12:35pm. Until then, talk amongst yourselves. I'll give you a topic. The Wild Card is neither wild nor is it a card. Discuss.
