You know what's cool about today's game? This is the last time the A's will face the Mariners until June 25th. Two months without the specter of facing Felix in another series. Two months without Brendan Ryan's old-tiney mustache. Two months until we have to watch two inept offenses clash in a battle to trade shutouts. I like that the Mariners are the A's equals in expectations, but I've just seen too much of them over the last three weeks.
The past two games have featured the two teams trading 4-0 shutouts. On Friday, the A's won on the strength of Bartolo Colon and 9 - count 'em, 9!! - whole hits. The Mariners won yesterday on the strength of Hector Noesi and his ability to induce 9 - count 'em, 9!! -- popups through 8 innings, while Jesus Montero provided all the offense they would need.
Today, Graham Godfrey takes the ball for the A's vs. Blake Beavan as all of MLB celebrates Jackie Robinson day. Hope no one is trying to keep score at using jersey numbers today -- all of MLB will also honor his legacy by wearing 42.
See you back here at 1:05 for gametime!
