Cuts began at A's camp this morning as last year's first round pick Sonny Gray was sent to minor-league camp. Today's lineup of course features YOENIS CESPEDES! so does anything else really matter about this game? I had the privilege of being able to go to yesterday's game (yes, I am crazy enough that being a mere 4 hours and 50 minutes away from Phoenix that that to me means a "drive there and drive back in one day" distance) and wow what a show. There was just this palpable buzz every time he came to the plate and with good reason as in his third at bat he just unleashed on Jeff Francis who as a Canadian can travel to Cuba and might have wanted to take advantage of that to do some scouting.
Today's lineup is:
Weeks, 2b
Crisp, cf
Cespedes, dh
Gomes, lf
Donaldson, 3b
Smith, rf
Recker, c
Ka'aihue, 1b
Pennington, ss
Tom Milone takes the hill for the A's. It'll be interesting to see if he goes "long" as did McCarthy and Colon, though I suspect they are only pitching longer in preparation for their earlier starts in Japan. I was however surprised Brad Peacock went three yesterday so who knows.
