The One Where We Talk About The Tomato-Meter and Next Year's Schedule and Stuff

Okay, so you know how everyone might have thought that A's fans alone would love Moneyball, and the rest of the planet would be indifferent? I always kind of thought that it would be A's fans who might have a problem with Moneyball; we're too close to the situation. We know how the story should have gone; we know what really happened, and boy do we notice baseball mistakes (see: Major League). I wasn't sure what to think. But then I consulted my Tomato-Meter, (for those of you who don't use Rotten Tomatoes, it's the website that counts all of a movie's reviews and rates the movie based purely on that category), and I was stunned.

This website is scarily accurate; a very good movie usually receives 80% or more positive reviews. Moneyball is currently checking in at 94%. Out of 116 reviews, only 7 critics did not love the movie. If you weren't going to see the movie, maybe that will change your mind. The jury is still out for me; I'll report back next week.

So, as some of you know, a good percentage of our AN family is down south with me right now. (Hi everyone! I'll see you in about four hours!) After a phenomenally successful trip to Philadelphia, we have all tried again for Round Two, this time in Anaheim. Plans include A's/Angels games, Disneyland, and a midnight showing of Moneyball. There is also a rumor that Blez himself might make an appearance.

I know I say this a lot, but if you don't really have people to travel with, or you haven't been to some fun cities, you should really, really come vacation with the AN crew. Which brings me to the 2012 schedule.

Would anyone like to go to Disneyworld in May, as the A's play the Rays in a weekend series May 4-6?

If you can leave work for a few days in the middle of the week (seriously, Colorado? A weekday series?), you can join some of us in Denver on June 12-14.

Do you like Arizona? It is likely that you will find ANers at Spring Training; we'll discuss more in detail come November, but if you want to see the A's/Diamondbacks (and root for Ziggy on the other team), they are playing in Arizona on the weekend of June 8-10.

We could go to Texas on June 29-July 1st; also a weekend series, or see the new field in Minnesota the weekend of July 13-15. (Not to mention the All Star Game in Kansas City, which is the cutest, most awesome town ever, AND they have fireflies!)

Baltimore, anyone? The A's play the O's the weekend of July 27-29.

I hear Chicago is lovely in August (heh!). The A's are in town the weekend of the 10-12.

And if you like New York, New York, the A's actually have a weekend series there in September (21-23), and since I know we all love Seattle, we can visit there on the weekend of September 7-9.

Anyone up for a trip next year? What series are you most looking forward to? Can the A's beat the Angels tonight? The game does count for the Angels, so I think it will be a fun weekend. If you're in town, I'll see you tonight; if not, you'll have to settle for my game thread.
