Open Thread: Game 70 - A's vs. Royals

Well that's not nice. Thankfully no one was there to see it.
Well that's not nice. Thankfully no one was there to see it.

Leading the American League with 40 losses, the A's try to accomplish the unthinkable today: Win a series! And they send to the mound the guy who has been their most dependable least undependable starting pitcher, Gio Gonzalez. It's sad when arguably your best pitcher overall this season comes in having walked 17 batters in his last 23.2 IP, but the A's are now pitching as shakily as they are hitting and fielding.

Gio is opposed by fellow LHP Jeff Francis, whose 82MPH slop baffled the A's in Kansas City but still translated into a win for Oakland in the end.

Today's lineup doesn't look godawful, just awful, so that's nice. Oh, and a win could find the A's within 6 games of the division by day's end.
