Open Thread: Game 17 (Boston Red Sox at Oakland Athletics)

Well...it's that time again, folks.

That disgusting, annoying time of year where red becomes a serious threat to green, at least among shirt colors in the Coliseum. The ever-popular Boston Red Sox start a two-game set tonight, and if you're in the Bay Area with nothing else to do, can you help to at least make sure Hegenberger doesn't turn into Yawkey West tonight?

Brett Anderson (0-1, 2.29 ERA) takes the mound at 7:05 PM, facing John "My ERA is as Large as My Mouth is Open" Lackey (1-1, 15.58 ERA). Lackey, like most of the rest of his team, has had a terrible month to kick off the season, giving up home runs to Adrian Beltre, Ian Kinsler, and Alex Rodriguez in only 8.2 innings pitched. Of course, none of our hitters are quite of that caliber but...well, Josh Willingham, you want to help out a bit? Much appreciated. Some teams can't afford Carl Crawford AND Adrian Gonzalez in one offseason, thank you very much.

Speaking of which, can you believe Boston is paying Crawford $142MM over seven years to bat seventh? Man.

Bob Geren is trotting out the standard lineup for Oakland, so part-time contributors Andy LaRoche, Landon Powell, and Conor Jackson are watching this one from the bench tonight.

Oakland lineup here, because the SBN widget is even more temperamental than it was last year:

CF Crisp
1B Barton
RF DeJesus
LF Willingham
DH Matsui
C Suzuki
2B Ellis
3B Kouzmanoff
SS Pennington
