Another Year, Another Spring Training (What World Series?)

As Don so depressingly pointed out in yesterday's fine post, it has been twenty years since the A's have been in the World Series. For some of you, you've never seen the A's in the Series, and for others of us, we were just too young to truly appreciate what a rare feat it really is. Congratulations to the Rangers and Cardinals fans, who get this opportunity (I have friends who root for both); I won't lie and say that I'm not insanely jealous. I even miss the ALCS; can you believe our last appearance was five years ago? AN was rocking during those game threads.

Tonight's game will feature Chris Carpenter against C.J. Wilson. I think it will be a good series; nothing sexy, minimal drama, and with a gun to my head, I'd probably have to root for the Rangers. Tony La Russa and Matt Holliday? Yeeeah. Your mileage may vary.

But I did want to note that there is a tentative 2012 Spring Training Schedule posted online. It looks like Spring is obviously affected by the A's trip to Japan; they will open the season there against Seattle on March 28 and 29. Bright side? We get real baseball in March this year. Downside? It will likely be in the middle of the night. So...anyone taking a road trip?

With only 20 days of Spring Training this season, that leaves only only 3 weekends to travel to Arizona. And while that increases the odds of running into other ANers, what would also help is knowing when everyone else is going. So...are you in for Spring Training this year? And when?

Game tonight is at 5PM, Pacific time. Game thread will be up shortly before.

The whole World Series Schedule can be found here.
