As if he hadn't been good enough already, in his last two starts Trevor Cahill has elevated the art of goose eggs to a whole 'nother level: 17 IP, 5 hits, 0 ER. Now sporting a tidy 2.72 ERA, Cahill tries to give the A's a series win against a right-hander the A's sought this past off-season, Colby Lewis.
A win would put the A's two games over .500 and 7.5 behind Texas. If you're inclined to hold onto faint hope, remember that the Rangers' next three series will test them against the Eastern powerhouses: New York, Boston, and "every couple weeks we don't get any hits but otherwise we're quite good" Tampa Bay.
Could the A's, with a win today, surge while Texas slides, and make a run? Stranger things have happened...Just not usually.
