Enigma Past, played by Rich Harden, takes on Enigma Present, Gio Gonzalez today in the City by the Bay.
This morning, I find myself thinking back to 2003 in Oakland. Hudson, Mulder, Zito, Lilly and a baby faced fire baller who was going to be better than all of them. The future was a bright place.
Now we have BiGMAC. Braden, Gonzalez, Mazzaro, Anderson and Cahill. Gio plays the role of Rich masterfully. He dazzles us with his dynamic, diving curveball as opposed to the splunkle ball that Harden used to throw. Both pitches making the hitters look like they belong in tee ball. He wows us with big strikeout numbers. Rich did too.
Of course, like Rich in 2003 (BB/9 close to 5) , Gio baffles us with the base on balls. Though, like Rich in 2004, Gio is getting better.
Today, Gio looks to out duel the most recent Cy Yong of the future who didn't quite pan out.
GAME ON! GO A's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
