OK, ha ha, very funny. Who stole my pants?
Winners of four in a row and 11 of 17, the A's try for the series sweep and with it a return to the .500 mark. And they will do it with a spring training lineup that is missing Kurt Suzuki and Daric Barton, along with all the power hitters they don't have.
Vin Mazzaro gets the ball for a day game that follows a night game where the first pitch temperature was 103 degrees. His opponent is the sabermetrically inclined Brian Bannister, who has been better at crunching numbers than he has been at actually getting batters out. Bannister comes in 7-7 with a 5.56 ERA, having surrendered 119 hits in 102 IP. Throw in 34 BBs and you have a Dana Eveland-like 1.50 WHIP. Bannister has also allowed 18 HRs, 3 of them in his last start.
So put him down for a two-hit shutout and away we go!
