Dallas Braden tries to prove his fame is worth more than 15 minutes, as he endeavors to make series winners of the A's over the Rays. Speaking of terrific changeups, James Shields borrows Braden's mound during the last halves of the innings, having struck out a dozen A's in 7 IP his last start.
The A's had a day off Thursday, have another one tomorrow, and in between have gotten 13.1 IP from Gio Gonzalez and Ben Sheets. Sounds a job for...9 relievers! A little excessive? However, some normalcy should be restored when Kurt Suzuki comes off the DL (planned for Wednesday) and then the A's hope Justin Duchscherer comes off the DL to take his turn next Saturday.
