Why is it that whenever the A's play the Yankees, I always feel like the A's are the fourth-grader who is invited to play football with high school players? "Oh you're so cute with your sweet little cleats and your new jersey. Awww...don't worry, we won't try that hard to beat you. (We won't have to.)"
And the A's played like that last night. Aside from the two big homeruns (and they were solid), they couldn't even manage to do the little things right; you know, like making outs and not swinging at pitches that bounce.
But tonight is another night.
The A's send Ben Sheets to the mound, on the heels of his first win in years to face off against Phil Hughes. This will be his first start against the A's powerful (ha!) offense, but he does have some scoreless relief innings against them.
Mark Ellis is on the DL, so expect a Rosales sighting at second, and be sure to welcome back Landon Powell to the bench!
And in what can only be classified as awesome timing by me, Rajai Davis is taking the night off, with Pennington leading off.
UPDATE: Buck has been scratched; Patterson is in his place.
