In case you missed the news (haha), Holliday was traded, and is now in St. Louis. Stories all over the place; see below. Travis Buck has not been called up; instead, it is Patterson:
...Beane was very firm in saying that Patterson deserves this opportunity because he has done all the A's ask. Patterson is batting .326 with nine homers, 39 RBIs and a whopping 77 runs. He's also got 34 steals, and the A's are running a heck of a lot more these days.
This implying, of course, that Buck has not.
Tonight's game features the newly awesome Brett Anderson, who took a perfect game into the seventh inning against the Angels on Sunday. He finished with a two-hit, eight inning shutout before the A's went on to lose the game. He faced the Yankees in his third start of his career, and did not fare well (five runs in five innings), but he's been a different pitcher lately. He will be matched up against Joba Chamberlain, who is making his first 2009 start against the A's.
Since Matt Holliday is in the lineup for the Cardinals tonight, the A's are trying out Patterson in their's:

Hairston looks so lonely there. With no one but Jack Cust to keep him company.
