Scott Hairston is back, trying to help the A's earn a split in the series. Getting a 7/10 split at Albany Bowl might be easier for the A's than beating John Lackey, who owns the A's more than any pitcher this side of, well, Ervin Santana.
Speaking of the lineup, for the second game in a row Rajai Davis is being punished for his electrifying "Hey, we can actually baseball well for one day" performance Friday night, relegated to riding the pine all weekend even with Hairston unavailable yesterday. Nice message to send to your team, Bob; a team that, by the way, embarrassed itself yet again yesterday. Maybe if you rewarded a heads-up effort by starting Rajai, even against -- gasp -- a right-handed pitcher, "life" might be the rule, instead of the exception, on your team.
Well enough of that -- on to today's game, featuring Brett Anderson who has tossed 13 scoreless innings in a row, 9 at Fenway Park and then 4 more at Tampa Bay before a stiff back forced him out the game. Can the A's pull to within 12 games of 1st place? Stay tuned...
