Open Thread: Game 86 - A's at Tampa Bay

New, 392 comments

How fitting that the A's get to "86" the first half of the season with today's 86th game of a long, oft-torturous odyssey that is the 2009 campaign.

I'm feeling good because yesterday I made only three key mistakes in one game wrap, first misspelling "cojones" to suggest that Bob Geren had shown a box, then referring to the pop-up Ryan Sweeney didn't run out as a ground ball, and finally insisting that runners get two bases if a catcher stops a ball with his mask, based on the fact that my 2004 Major League Baseball rulebook says so -- who knew that these rules were ever amended?

I'd bench myself, but AN needs a game thread so here goes. Brett Anderson, fresh off a shutout, goes up against James Shields, master of the changeup. Ryan Sweeney is absent from today's lineup, even against a RHP. Interesting.
