It must be Sunday because school is closed, my Chronicle is thicker, and I'm typing the phrase "trying to avoid the sweep."
Following a loss that would be the toughest of the year if there hadn't somehow been at least three others that have actually been even worse, the A's try to regroup behind Josh Outman - one of the few bright spots during this recent free-fall into the abyss that sits ten games below .500. Maybe Leslie Knope can turn it into a park!
Outman's line for his last 4 starts: 1-0, 2.42 ERA, 22.1 IP, 16 hits, 6 ER, 6 BB, 15 K. He is opposed by former Angels right-hander Jon Garland (4-2, 4.72 ERA), who seems to know how to win 2/3 of his decisions while giving up almost 5 runs/game. Garland was 14-8 last season with a 4.90 ERA.
