Sean Gallagher's second-to-last tuneup comes today against the Rockies; Gallagher is on turn to start Game 3 of the regular season. Brad Ziegler is among those scheduled to appear in relief today, while Ryan Sweeney and Daric Barton are among those scheduled to rest their nagging owies.
Just for kicks, I thought folks might be interested in checking out the Spring Training stats for some players the A's either lost, or did not add, this off-season. Obviously, "small sample!" and "Spring Training stats are meaningless!" warnings are fully in effect, but here are the numbers:
Carlos Gonzalez (42 PA): .189/.286/.405
Analysis: The guy has talent, but...
Greg Smith: 8 IP, 13 hits, 5 BB, 2 K, 9.00 ERA
Analysis: Ugly stats, uglier peripherals.
Matt Murton (58 PA): .302/.362/.453
Analysis: At least in the NL, the guy actually can hit.
Rafael Furcal (62 PA): .222/.323/.278
Analysis: Well that's a shame.
Jesus Guzman (52 PA): .388/.423/.837
Analysis: Gaaaaaaah!!!!!!!!!!!
Finally, I want to encourage you to check out Susan Slusser's article about Landon Powell, found in today's Chronicle. Very interesting, and with info that was certainly news to me. Then after you read the article for free, just go ahead and subscribe to The Chronicle. Newspapers are cool.
