After perusing the comments on the New AN announcement, I decided to follow-up a bit with an open floor to talk about some of the things people like or dislike, or what is missing from AN and the recaps. Especially during a rebuilding year, where the recaps just don’t write themselves like they do when the A’s are winning, I am always interested in hearing feedback for the upcoming year.
One suggestion on the floor is more diary-promotion during the off-season, and a suggestion from last year is including the scores of the games in the recaps. Anything else you would like to see from AN?
Understanding, of course, that what makes AN special is the perspective of five different front-page writers recapping games in an unstructured style (and if a straight summary is your ideal, MLB.com recaps are probably preferable), but if there is something that we could add, what would it be?
One of my favorite features of AN (and always has been) is the uncensored, unsanitized recaps after a game--especially a frustrating one (FireMachaNow!). And on the other side of the coin, as a writer, I like being able to recap the game as I saw it, even if it doesn’t go from the first inning to the last.
But we are nothing without an audience, and in a year that promises to be a little different, to say the least, I am open to ideas.
