The A’s have been 1-2 and they’ve been 2-4. Tonight, they try to avoid going to 3-6—and hope instead to put themselves in position for their first series win of 2007.

Chad Gaudin makes his second of many starts in place of Esteban Loaiza, who says he won’t even resume throwing for 3-6 weeks. If Gaudin throws a lot of strikes tonight, as he did in Anaheim, the common refrain might be, “Take your time, ELo!” But it won’t take very many walks before the refrain turns to, “Has it been 3-6 weeks yet?” Jon Garland, who generally throws strikes for better or for worse, makes the start for Chicago.

Tonight’s starting lineups find Jermaine Dye on the bench and the A’s frantically in search of their 3rd homerun:
