Open Thread: Game 121 - A's at Kansas City (Game 1)

Hang onto your hats, because we've got it all today: two baseball games, and a weather forecast for that delectable combination of 99 degree heat and possible thundershowers. I checked with the experts at Murphy'sLaw.com (mostly to ask how they managed to get an apostrophe into their URL), and they said it's practically guaranteed that Game 1 will be interrupted by a 2.5 hour rain delay, and that Game 2 should go somewhere between 15-17 innings. In other words, you--that's right, you--may be warming up in the bullpen before the night is over.

In Game 1, Joe Blanton gets the call against something that calls itself a De La Rosa. The scouting report says that De La Rosa's fastball tops out at 82-97 and that he also throws offspeed pitches. He may or may not be right-handed.

Double-headers are especially exciting for guys like Adam Melhuse and Antonio Perez, as there is a very good chance that they actually might get to sit next to someone who almost plays. In fact...Wait...Melhuse is playing!!! And so is Bobby Crosby. The starting lineups for Game 1:

Kotsay
Swisher
Bradley
Thomas
Chavez
Payton
Crosby
Melhuse
Ellis

DeJesus
Grusdzielaeniekekek
Teahen
Sweeney
Brown
Shealy
Bako
Berroa
Gathright

UPDATE: Luke Hudson will pitch Game 1 for KC; presumably that means De La Rosa will pitch Game 2 (unless Hudson lasts 0.1 innings again, in which case he can also start the second game).
