Open Thread: Game 83 - A's vs. Tigers

New, comments

The A's and Danny Haren with a 6-6 record and a 3.53 ERA take on the Tigers and Justin Verlander with a 10-4 record and a 3.13 ERA.

Verlander has been great for the Tigers this year. The last time he pitched against the A's, the A's won, but he awed the crowd several time hitting triple digits on the radar gun. He can be absolutely nasty.

The A's send out this offense to take on the 23-year-old:

Kotsay
Crosby
Chavez
Thomas
Payton
Johnson
Kielty
Kendall
Ellis

The A's rest Nick Swisher for first time in quite a while. He and Kotsay were a combined 1 for 54 in recent games, so he could use the rest. Even though Swisher got a hold of a couple of Verlander pitches last time, it probably makes sense since the A's will likely want to use Swisher at first tomorrow with Coliseum Kenny on the mound.

The Tigers send out this lineup:

Granderson
Infante
Thames
Ordonez
Guillen
Monroe
Shelton
Wilson
Inge

I'll be reposting the grades after the game since a lot of ANers were likely on vacation these past couple of days. Also, I'm actually going to the game tomorrow (and conducting an interview) so you'll be in the very capable hands of baseballgirl and Nico will be handling Thursday's game.

LET'S GO A'S!!!!!!!
