The A's and Danny Haren with a 6-9 record and a 4.02 ERA take on the Red Sox and Kyle Snyder with a 2-1 record and a 7.02 ERA.
The A's absolutely need Haren to be something that he hasn't been since the first week in July and that's good. He's given up 12 earned runs in his past 11 innings pitched and has gone 0-3 his last three starts.
The A's tagged Snyder for five runs in 4 2/3rds last time out, so if Haren has a good game the A's have a good chance of salvaging a game from this series and taking a 4-3 advantage in the season series with the Red Sox.
