Furious Phone Calls

The speculation that Daric Barton is arriving soon is growing. So, I've spent the past hour or so trying to reach anyone to talk about it.

Needless to say, I've figured out why Barton isn't in the lineup tonight. The A's reportedly want to give Barton a couple of nights off to make sure he is well-rested. Well-rested for what, you ask? That's open to speculation because I never got a definite answer. But I would guess that it means that Daric could be joining the A's soon for the stretch run. He may still be a September call-up, but I also know that the team has been trying to work him in the outfield to get him used to that position.

Barton would like to both play in the field and bat, but if it means he gets a shot at DH, he'd do it in a heartbeat. Regardless, this team could use an infusion of something...and soon.

As for the game tonight, the A's offense just looks like it has completely run out of energy. The 0-8 at the top of the lineup is dreadful. Our pitching continues to be a strength, even with former Athletic Carlos Pena coming back to haunt the team.

Even though the present is rough, the very near future could be very interesting. Stay tuned.
