I got this info in a Modesto Nuts (A team for the Colorado Rockies) email newsletter and I thought I'd pass it along to anyone who might be interested...

The Modesto Nuts have partnered with the Stockton Ports to raise money for former Modesto Athletic and Stockton Ports player Jed Morris. Morris, a member of the 2004 California League Champion Modesto A's was diagnosed last week with acute lymphocytic leukemia. The Nuts and the Ports will hold a silent auction at Banner Island Ballpark on Friday, August 25th prior to the game between the two teams. All proceeds for the auction will go to helping the Morris family pay for the medical expenses.

So I was reading articles on the A's mlb.com site and in the article about Macha (Macha's crew unable to rally vs. Moyer) this bit of information caught my eye:

"The A's were in the middle of a players-only meeting Friday before the opener of their season-ending series against the Mariners, discussing how they'll split the modest amount of money they'll be awarded for coming in second place in the American League West"

and I got to thinking of fun possible things they could purchase...

My question to all of you is, what do you think they should spend the money on? Something realistic like sending Chavs to the batting cages? Or something a little more creative... like buying some more miniskirts for Huston?

feel free to treat this as some kind of open thread...

I wasn't sure which diary post thing to tag this onto, so I figured I'd make my own. I was also not planning to stay up to catch the replay of the game at 3AM... haha so much for that idea I guess...

Anyway, I'm sure there will be better quality pictures up soon from somewhere, but I did my best to capture the moment by recording a video of my TV with my digital camera. I have the video to share too (it's just over 1MB), but I'm not sure where to put that so you all can download it.
