7/3 Minor League Freedom From Wrap-Ups Edition

So before I could write the recap for 7/2 yesterday, my right ankle gave out on my way back from lunch.  While I usually pound out a recap during the lunch hour, I spent most of the rest of my lunch hour, and the day, keeping my projects at work caught up while attending to my ankle.  I admittedly was in no mood to catch up on the minors last night, so I figured on a DOUBLEHEADER special today.

Well... except I got as far as wrapping up the DSL before MiLB.com decided to crap out. And stay crapped out as I type this.  It may be up in an hour or so, but with two hours and change to go before I need to be somewhere today... I'm afraid a recap for 7/3 is no-go as well.

But DON'T FRET... for stats on yesterday's games I will direct you to the fundamentally outdated but statistically updated First Inning for your statheaded needs, and for more info, there is also the always-detailed J at Mariner Minors.

And my apologies.  I'll try it again tomorrow.

A flat out terrific news day

Asid from the obligatory headline about the Sonics heading out to barren, dusty pastures next season, there are some other fabulous news items.

- News outlets have now disclosed that prized international teen prospect Michel Inoa has signed with our division rival, the Oakland A's, for $4.25 million.  This is kinda old news to some, but in case you didn't know, there it is.

- From the Captain Obvious dept. of features, Yahoo's Steve Henson passes out midseason report cards, and you can probably guess which team is at the top with an A+, and which team is at the bottom with an F... but go look anyway just to make sure.

- And as if we needed more reason not to like Joe Buck, he a) voluntarily appeared on Colin Cowherd's radio show and b) admitted that he not only doesn't watch much sports in general, but admits that he really doesn't like baseball.

You know how some things restore your faith in humanity?  Seeing all those stories blocked into a single news feature box on Yahoo pretty much gave me the exact opposite of that.  Well played, Yahoo.

7/1 Minor League Wrap-Up

The Phrase of the Day for yesterday's games was 'Spot Starter'.  Nearly every team ran a reliever or replacement starter out to the hill in the 1st inning, with varying results.  This was spurred in part by Felix's injury potentially necessitating another callup from Tacoma in the next few days (because Jimenez can't pitch every day), and in part by injuries to Ryan Feierabend, Chris Jakubauskas and Potatoes landing all of them on Tacoma's 7 Day DL.  More on that later when I acquire more info, but in the meantime...

... on to the wrap-up!

6/29 Minor League Wrap-Up

A note on Luis Valbuena's presence in Tacoma: Ryan Divish from TNT was kind enough to give me a heads-up, along with J from Mariner Minors, that Yung Chi Chen is out for the season with a knee injury, with J confirming that he's had surgery. Chen has had some poor luck with injuries the last couple years, though this latest ill fate will give Luis Valbuena an extended chance with the Rainiers.

Now for some more impressive news: the entire minor league system got swept on Sunday! Well, those who were active anyway.

On to the wrap-up!

With the internet spotty and needing to get going to LL Softball, I want to post this while I can, so no neat intro for you, though I will advise that the DSL and VSL teams were off.

On to the wrap-up!

6/27 Minor League Wrap-Up

Full slate today!  Plenty of offense up and down the board, though the pitching suffered accordingly.

On to the wrap-up!

6/27 Minor League Wrap-Up

So we had a couple of big hitting nights, an All Star meltdown, returning teams and other teams taking breaks.  Click the jump to figure out what this salad's made of.

... wait, that looks totally wrong.  What I mean- screw it.  I need to get back to work.  On to the wrap-up.

Pillow 1, Brandon Inge 0

Brandon Inge is back on the DL after reaggravating an oblique injury with... a pillow.

"I have a 3-year-old son who sleeps in the bed with my wife and me," Inge said. "I was trying to push the pillow down behind his head (two nights ago), and when I did ... I repopped (the strained muscle).

Now, I understand random things happen off the job... you hurt a knee while cleaning your motorcycle... you fall down the stairs with some luggage... or while carrying a dead animal... you get carpal tunnel from playing Guitar Hero... but... a pillow. Brandon Inge is back on the DL because of a pillow.

Are our baseball players not men anymore? Are they... Devo? Discuss.
