ANtics 2007: The Board Game

Ever want to try your hand at running the 2007 Oakland A's? Want to challenge a friend? Well, the ANtics have made it ever so easy! Simply find two player tokens (buttons and coins will do), a single six sided die, and some serious fandom, and you're on your way.

Instructions and Game Boards Below:

Simple Rules:

  1. Roll the dice to see who goes first. Highest number leads off.
  1. If you land on a square with instructions, follow those instructions. If you land on a photo, then bask in the glory that is A's baseball!

Special Squares:

  1. If you land in the special "Two Minute Thank You Speech" square, your opponent must time your speech and ensure it passes for you to advance.
  1. If you land on the "Playoff Square", you're incredibly lucky! Roll high, and you can avoid the early rounds of the playoffs!

The Playoffs:

  1. Unless you are advanced to a further series in the special "Playoffs Square", you must play all three rounds of the playoffs, provided your dice are lucky. For example, rolling a six does not get you to the World Series from the ALDS. It only guarantees you made the ALCS, but keep the momentum up!

Winning the Game:

  1. The first player to advance and become World Champs wins.
  1. If neither team makes it to World Champs, whomever goes further in the playoffs wins. What? You expected you had a 50/50 chance of wininng? What team have you been following?

Let me guess, a Milton Bradley game

As a person who has dealt with muscle pulls and strains, just when the small ones feel better and you forget about it, bamm you get a serious one. Usually going all out for an important play. You only need a coin toss, to figure out the possiblities of reagrevating a muscle pull, it seems to be about 50/50.

I don't know why people don't comment on

this.  This is phenomenal.  I will be playing a strip-drinking version of this very soon.  Yes, like solitaire, until I can find someone to join me.

Got Me.

My guess is that they are too busy playing. :-)

How many World championships do you have so far?

what's with all the whoms and whomevers?

I swear, I see 10 times more erroneous uses of "whom" and "whomever" on AN than anywhere else.

In most of the world, people who use "whom" naturally use it correctly, and everyone else never uses it at all, which is just fine.

But here, for some weird reason I don't understand, a whole lot of people for whom "whom" is not a natural speech pattern feel compelled to use it anyway, with the result that they use it wrong. Frequently.

What is it about AN?

Once again:

(1) "Whom" is objective case, same as "him". So if it wouldn't make sense to say "him goes first" then it's just as wrong to say "whomever goes first".

(2) It's always acceptable to use "who" instead of "whom". If all this grammar stuff means nothing to you, just don't ever use "whom" and you'll be just fine. Where people go wrong (here on AN, anyway) is putting "whom" in where it doesn't belong.

Your geek is showing

You betray what a geek you are when you say "six-sided die".  For most people, all dice are six-sided.  It's only nerdy game freaks like us who know about all the funny-shaped ones.

More directly...

I think if I said only a single die... I would get questions as to which color, or which player on the DL was really dead. In this environment, six sided was necessary.

a single die
Yeah, I get your point.

And besides, Jeter would have stretched it out to a double.
