A's have a runner at third after bunting. Wow! Haren and Hernandez have lived up to the ace billing so far.

Kendall can't hit a good fastball anymore
He looks way overmatched against the gas. He looks exclusively for soft stuff away that he can lift the other way.

You know
Maybe that bunt wasn't so great after all, given who was coming up next.

smallball sucks.

Haren and Felix
are dealing. I can't believe how Kendall went after that rising fastball...

What's the deal Kendall
He must only be able to put a ball in play with a runner on first.

That was the one.
Plus with the hair, he gets Zito's lack-of-run-support-fun.

The inning would have been over after Ibanez's

What kind of statement does Geren make tomorrow?
- Bench Crosby for tomorrow, telling his team that they can't make costly mental mistakes like that.
- Start Crosby, telling his team that he's behind them no matter what.
I prefer the former
by fadedash on Apr 2, 2007 5:10 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
and he gets Danny one more inning
so he feels better about the ending to his first start.
by rebus on Apr 2, 2007 5:12 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs

by Poppy on Apr 2, 2007 5:17 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
its just as realistic
as blind faith, no?
baseball rollercoasters up and down and so do the fans' emotions and feelings. if particular expressions aren't to your liking, try brushing them off. hopefully that's not easier said than done

Why is there a laptop in the kitchen?
It reminds me of a story my friend told me when he worked in a computer repair shop.
A customer brought her computer in and said it was having problems. When they opened the case, it was filthy inside it. There were tons of bugs, spiders, and even cockroaches! So they decided to do a special favor and vacuum it all out and clean it up, then they fixed the computer.
When they told the customer, she said "oh that makes sense, we keep the computer in on the kitchen counter."
Gross.

I saw an article
Saying that they were going to let Felix loose this year to pitch more pitches, looks like they are doing that first game...
GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!!!

Will we score?
This is a pretty unenjoyable game, really. I know it's the first game, but Santana's getting hit pretty good. Zambrano got hit around. It shouldn't be this easy for a pitcher on opening day.

I think I'll let my
20-year-old phenom pitcher throw 111 pitches on opening day. Did I mention, I'm Dusty Baker?

This game is about a million times more enjoyable than last years opening game. At least in this one the first 5 innnings were exciting!

Four hits per team. Please, Bobby, redeem yourself big time this year....

Yes, great pitching
Felix was better, but that's all they have and I like Blanton tomorrow! Let's go A's!
by A'sfansince1970 on Apr 2, 2007 5:54 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
ok. Felix was terrific
and Haren pitched well from what I've heard (having missed innings 3-6).
What exactly was the sequence in the bottom of the sixth? Did the Mariners score all their runs in that inning? How did Crosby's error lead to the runs?
Yeah, I know, I can read throught the entire game thread. But I'd appreciate just a recap of the run scoring.
thanks!
by OaklandSi on Apr 2, 2007 5:54 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
No error=no runs
The quick answer is that without the error, the M's would not have scored. Bobby's error allowed the bases to become loaded, then a sac fly (that would have been the third out) and then Sexson hits a three-run homer.
by cptranman on Apr 2, 2007 5:57 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Well... if not for the error...
that's an inning-ending 3-6-1 DP.
by calgbear on Apr 2, 2007 5:59 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Comebacker to Haren,
perfect throw to Crosby at 2nd...and he missed the ball, loading the bases. Sac Fly, 2-out 3-run homer.
You guys remember the 14-inning (?) game in Seattle where Street blew the comebacker that would have ended it?

Whatev, its only one loss...
I know this team will not commit 324 errors and I know that they will not score 0 runs while striking out 1,944 times. The only direction left for this team is up.
Go A's!
P.S. Zito gave up 15 runs last year to the Yanks on opening day. Where did the team end up then?
Go Buck! Congrats on the first of many.

What is with the chick on M's Live?
They show the "box score" of the Mariners and raves about how great they were, then they show the A's "box" and she makes fun of the o-fers. What the heck? The Mariners didn't get any more hits than the A's, and two of the A's hits were for extra bases! What a blatant homer.
by cptranman on Apr 2, 2007 6:01 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Don't even get me started with me on the Chick
She pretty much ruined it for me with her antics when we clinched in Seattle last year. Not really, but she's about as unprofessional as they come.
I'm sure Seattle fans love her, though. They can have her.
