A's have a runner at third after bunting. Wow! Haren and Hernandez have lived up to the ace billing so far.

LET'S GO OAKLAND!
wow kendall
that was gonna hit ya man
by jme on Apr 2, 2007 4:53 PM PDT reply actions
that guy on the mound...
might have something to do with it
Negativity schmegativity!
Unicorns and raindows!
That's it, next time have Kendall go for
the squeeze.
Can't do any worse.
"No. It's Oakland."
there's an A
in 'they don't score a man on 3rd with less than 2 outs".
lol
Kendall can't hit a good fastball anymore
He looks way overmatched against the gas. He looks exclusively for soft stuff away that he can lift the other way.
You know
Maybe that bunt wasn't so great after all, given who was coming up next.
smallball sucks.
check and mate.
by WhiteElephantGuy on Apr 2, 2007 4:54 PM PDT reply actions
Haren and Felix
are dealing. I can't believe how Kendall went after that rising fastball...
What's the deal Kendall
He must only be able to put a ball in play with a runner on first.
by IndianaAsfan on Apr 2, 2007 4:54 PM PDT reply actions
Oh Travis, only you
can cleanse the #6 of Ginter.
"No. It's Oakland."
Kendall
i was really hoping he'd hit one his patented weak ground ball to the right side. oh well, hope springs eternal.
Chavvy, fielding like a champ.
Hope he gets the hitting turned on early.
Did someone warn Haren
that taking Hudson's number also means getting the associated curses?
"No. It's Oakland."
You mean like
the 'No offensive runs to help you out' curse?
That was the one.
Plus with the hair, he gets Zito's lack-of-run-support-fun.
Really, he should start drinking heavily now and get it over with.
"No. It's Oakland."
don't forget the
blown save curse
Keep him out of bars in Boston
by FreeSeatUpgrade on Apr 2, 2007 4:59 PM PDT up reply actions
I don't care
who you are, or who's pitching. Putting a ball in play is routine. Should be done 90% of the time.
let's give Kendall...
more than one game in 2007 before we crucify him for striking out three times.
I like our Suzuki better
WTF CROSBY
Way to make me a lier, Crosby.
Jesus.
What the #^$%#?
Crosby wha huh?
Words fail me....
I want Marco back.
by larrysgurl on Apr 2, 2007 5:00 PM PDT reply actions
My oh my
Too early for "Crosby sucks?"
One of the TBDs on the promotion schedule--
Bobby Crosby Beer Giveaway Day.
"No. It's Oakland."
i'm tellin myself...
relax, take it easy, don't struggle...first game. and remembering crosby's opening day or so in his rookie year blowing at least one easy play that might have cost that game....
Sample size be damned
Opening Day clearly ain't Crosby's best.
by FreeSeatUpgrade on Apr 2, 2007 5:04 PM PDT up reply actions
whew,
thought that was some salami.
Ibanez is their best all around hitter.
GFDI
we should have been out of this inning free and clear. YOU OWE ME BOBBY.
goddamnit
no more take it easy. damn you crosby!
thank you
Bobby Crosby.
thanks a lot bobby.

Rainbows, puppies, licorice sticks, kites,
kitties, smiles, and love.
Your sarcsm is so subtle that I missed it
entirely. Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!
it's funny you know...
we were all worried about his offense...how ironic.
The inning would have been over after Ibanez's
flyout, which wouldn't have scored a run, if Crosby didn't do that. The homer sucks, but it's on Crosby, not Haren, as far as I'm concerned.
by Chavinator on Apr 2, 2007 5:05 PM PDT reply actions
witasick warming. white flag already.
Oh no, not Witasiak!
Nice swing
from Sexson though. Kept his hands in and back. Great swing on a so-so pitch.
Don't blame Bobby, he'll probably get you a few runs too.
I hope so...
he owns Haren a grand slam (and I don't mean at Denny's)
no he's not
la-la-la-la-la-la...
he's not "injured"
shut the fuck up dude
perfect
haren falls off the mound, now limping around
Oh no.
Gaaaahhh
This is not good.... Welcome back to the grind, everyone.
by Chavinator on Apr 2, 2007 5:07 PM PDT reply actions
Oh jeez
Haren just hurt himself on his follow through.
Now you can blame Bobby...
Oh god, Larry Davis is out there--
Hide the children! Don't let him touch you, Danny!
"No. It's Oakland."
If haren is hurt, can I blame it on Bobby?
by larrysgurl on Apr 2, 2007 5:08 PM PDT reply actions
yes
yes crosby sucks
by 3Chavy3 on Apr 2, 2007 5:09 PM PDT up reply actions

Introduce Crosby to Johnson's optometrist
the kid looks blind
Just don't introduce him to Johnson's orthopedic surgeon.
Great job crosby
I am so glad we have him back. he has single handedly lost the game for the A's and ruined a great start by haren I hope he goes on the dl again
by 3Chavy3 on Apr 2, 2007 5:08 PM PDT reply actions
you hope he does on the DL again
over one game? yeah, that would be real great for the a's chances this year.
so is haveing the butcher playing at ss

I just hope...
I can look back on my disdain for Crosby and remember what a fool I was...

when the bosox come...
there should be a contest as to whose hair is greeeeezzzer....Swish's or Manny's
New rule...
Crosby should be asked to guard the hotel room during the first game of the season...it would be better for all involved
Pitch counts after 6
Hernandez: 76 / 54
Haren: 91 / 61
luxury this year.
new HD tv, new tivo like recorder....set it and forget it, off to fitness center.
What kind of statement does Geren make tomorrow?
- Bench Crosby for tomorrow, telling his team that they can't make costly mental mistakes like that.
- Start Crosby, telling his team that he's behind them no matter what.
I prefer the former
by fadedash on Apr 2, 2007 5:10 PM PDT reply actions
and he gets Danny one more inning
so he feels better about the ending to his first start.
definitely the latter
crosby is young, coming off a bunch of injuries, and didn't get to play much this spring.
On the bright side
both Buck and Stewart have made promising starts today. I'm especially looking forward to what Travis will do this year.
Okay
The new AN "functions" suck for actual game threads. And the old crying still sucks as much as it did last year.
So, I've given it 4-5 minutes, that's enough. Toodles.
Refresh
I think you can get rid of the new labels by refreshing manually...
Manually and repeatedly
Right,
because the "game over" type of wailing is totally realistic and warranted, and no one else has had any complaint about its effects in the last few days.
its just as realistic
as blind faith, no?
baseball rollercoasters up and down and so do the fans' emotions and feelings. if particular expressions aren't to your liking, try brushing them off. hopefully that's not easier said than done
by fadedash on Apr 2, 2007 5:21 PM PDT up reply actions
You can only do that
when the person or persons you are complaining about are whiny douchebags, which is clearly not the case here.
you can set it so it doesn't
automatically update.
I game up on the autorefuckupsthethread.
See, that preview button didn't help. At. All.
Don't worry,
Can anybody play shortstop on this team?
Damn.
Hey Blez, the "new thread open" message
disappears really fast when combined with auto-refresh. Maybe the Stomper graphic would help the new thread be more noticeable?
i said so last year
every "new thread open" comment should have the stomper graphic and a link, so it's more noticeable.
i can't tell if this is serious or a joke....
great ABs by Chavez tonight
he's really been hangin' in there.
Thanks to all whining bitches who chased Poppy
from the game thread. There's a little thing called roll with the punches, and another thing called gracee under pressure. Not to mentions Chavy!
LOL
I was busy trying xbox's suggestion to unset "autorefresh," but it doesn't help. Then I had to answer something. Sorry my departure was delayed, actually going now... ;)
Oooh. I misread "toodles" as "farewell cruel
thread."
Froeming is getting worse as the game goes on
Amen
by fridaynightfan on Apr 2, 2007 5:18 PM PDT up reply actions
Crosby might as well swing
at the slider in the dirt. Froeming has a 50-50 chance of calling it a strike.
always nice getting shutout on opening day
same old 2006 A's so far. lets call up perez for crosby. felix is certainly a good pitcher, but the A's are making him look too good. They look terrible. The umpire also has a strange strikezone to help him.
Crosby is....
going to k against Hernandez a lot of times this year.
by SwisherSweet on Apr 2, 2007 5:20 PM PDT reply actions
I think Crosby's going to K a lot this
year period.
by larrysgurl on Apr 2, 2007 5:20 PM PDT up reply actions
All he is gonna get all year
Sliders to the outside corner/in the dirt ...until he learns how to layoff of them or go with it the other way
So apparently
Anything within three feet of the plate is a strike for Felix. Especially on a 2 strike count.
Marco Scutaro
...would've got a hit there. And he would have cured cancer as he hustled to take the extra base.
MARCO!
That is all.
is it too early to say
Bench Crosby? He's a bust - dating back to his injury days and the way he approaches the plate, his confidence, etc. Today is pretty brutal too.
I sure would have felt better seeing Scooter in the positions he was put into today.
by WhiteElephantGuy on Apr 2, 2007 5:21 PM PDT reply actions
i'm just glad you're not the a's manager
Is it too early to say
WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE?
by GreenNGoldSooner on Apr 2, 2007 5:23 PM PDT up reply actions
Yes. It's too early.
hm ok
i'm not saying anything emotional anymore. Go box scores and constant objectiveness at all times.
by WhiteElephantGuy on Apr 2, 2007 5:37 PM PDT up reply actions
I actually though that was a legit strike
Strike 2 to Swisher, on the other hand, was nowhere near the strike zone. At least 6 inches wide and 6 inches low.
Wide strikezones work two ways...
Everyone knew Felix was the real deal, and that is what we are seeing here. People that are getting down on the A's too much right now might feel silly when Hernandez wins the Cy young this year.
by SwisherSweet on Apr 2, 2007 5:21 PM PDT reply actions
I think Swish and I have the same hair cut.
it looks better on him
Sadly, I agree with you.
Crosby needs to play everyday when healthy.
No question.
What are A's' announcers saying re Haren?
losing opening day (if they don't come back)
by larrysgurl on Apr 2, 2007 5:24 PM PDT reply actions
i think witasick is going to have a decent year
and make a few a's fans look stupid
Then we'll know how Angels' fans feel
i said look stupid
not be stupid
What is this feeling?
I have an odd warmth overcoming me in regards to Jay Witasick... It's so strange, and yet, so nice...
"No. It's Oakland."
Witasick struck out Ichiro?
Invasion of the bodysnatchers...
yeah because witasick has only struck out like 9
per game since 2001.
Time for him to bunt.
Brilliant Commentary
So they show the 6th inning "highlights", the Crosby error and the intelligent announcer says "Here's the difference in this inning in my mind". No freakin' kidding! No error, it's still tied.

Why is there a laptop in the kitchen?
It reminds me of a story my friend told me when he worked in a computer repair shop.
A customer brought her computer in and said it was having problems. When they opened the case, it was filthy inside it. There were tons of bugs, spiders, and even cockroaches! So they decided to do a special favor and vacuum it all out and clean it up, then they fixed the computer.
When they told the customer, she said "oh that makes sense, we keep the computer in on the kitchen counter."
Gross.
I saw an article
Saying that they were going to let Felix loose this year to pitch more pitches, looks like they are doing that first game...
GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!!!
it makes sense if you're mike hargrove
because it's your only chance of not getting fired.
of course, you'd think the front office would have some problems with the new policy...
Will we score?
This is a pretty unenjoyable game, really. I know it's the first game, but Santana's getting hit pretty good. Zambrano got hit around. It shouldn't be this easy for a pitcher on opening day.
GOOD NEWS EVERYONE
King Felix has scored me 41 points so far(assuming he gets the W) in my fantasy league
by fadedash on Apr 2, 2007 5:33 PM PDT reply actions
hey, don't jinx him
on second though, yeah, go ahead and jinx him.
I DON'T WANT TO SEE A GIANTS COMMERCIAL
DURING AN A'S GAME! ESPECIALLY NOT ONE SHOWING BARRY BONDS HITTING A HOMERUN @ THE COLISEUM AND WITH BARRY ZITO IN A GIANTS UNIFORM!
I think I'll let my
20-year-old phenom pitcher throw 111 pitches on opening day. Did I mention, I'm Dusty Baker?
i think he'll be fine
he cruised through the last few innings.
Hey, Marshall
And MLBtv
has gone kablooie.
Premium died a couple of times for the game
but overall, it's been pretty good
I can't get anything now
Premium, regular video, or audio. Just gameday.
Alright, here goes...
Nope. No dice.

So far
This game is about a million times more enjoyable than last years opening game. At least in this one the first 5 innnings were exciting!
my meeting ended around 5:20 pm
got in my car and turned on the game, just in time to hear the end of the sixth inning...
that's what I'm talking about! 2b milton!
I'm not a fan of the comment system.
But I like what Bradley did with that.
Let's go Swisher
make it respectable
Hey, stop being so negative, Poppy!
Oh.
No more complaining about complaining, Nico.
Ah.
that ump sucks monkeyballs
Oh well.
Hopefully we'll get the suck out of our system early.
see you tomorrow guys
LET'S GO OAKLAND!!
Well... that sucked
But remember: 161-1 is still possible!
[throws self off bridge]
Oh, the game's over?
Well the A's Pitching was great.
Four hits per team. Please, Bobby, redeem yourself big time this year....

Yes, great pitching
Felix was better, but that's all they have and I like Blanton tomorrow! Let's go A's!
by A'sfansince1970 on Apr 2, 2007 5:54 PM PDT up reply actions
ok. Felix was terrific
and Haren pitched well from what I've heard (having missed innings 3-6).
What exactly was the sequence in the bottom of the sixth? Did the Mariners score all their runs in that inning? How did Crosby's error lead to the runs?
Yeah, I know, I can read throught the entire game thread. But I'd appreciate just a recap of the run scoring.
thanks!
No error=no runs
The quick answer is that without the error, the M's would not have scored. Bobby's error allowed the bases to become loaded, then a sac fly (that would have been the third out) and then Sexson hits a three-run homer.
by cptranman on Apr 2, 2007 5:57 PM PDT up reply actions
Well... if not for the error...
that's an inning-ending 3-6-1 DP.
Comebacker to Haren,
perfect throw to Crosby at 2nd...and he missed the ball, loading the bases. Sac Fly, 2-out 3-run homer.
You guys remember the 14-inning (?) game in Seattle where Street blew the comebacker that would have ended it?
Then he will put down his video controller
and head to the park.

Whatev, its only one loss...
I know this team will not commit 324 errors and I know that they will not score 0 runs while striking out 1,944 times. The only direction left for this team is up.
Go A's!
P.S. Zito gave up 15 runs last year to the Yanks on opening day. Where did the team end up then?
Go Buck! Congrats on the first of many.
What is with the chick on M's Live?
They show the "box score" of the Mariners and raves about how great they were, then they show the A's "box" and she makes fun of the o-fers. What the heck? The Mariners didn't get any more hits than the A's, and two of the A's hits were for extra bases! What a blatant homer.
by cptranman on Apr 2, 2007 6:01 PM PDT reply actions
Don't even get me started with me on the Chick
She pretty much ruined it for me with her antics when we clinched in Seattle last year. Not really, but she's about as unprofessional as they come.
I'm sure Seattle fans love her, though. They can have her.
oh the blonde, melisa ethridge voiced FSNW gal

Haha! Victory!
Buck is ahead of Alex Gordon in the hits category. Gordon went 0-3. ROY, baby!! Matsuzaka or no Matsuzaka!
