ANtics Episode 3.27: A New Hope

By the end of 2007, the A's heroes weren't guys named Crosby, Chavez, Kendall and Kotsay. Instead, a ragtag bunch, including Suzuki, Barton, Cust, and Hannahan, helped the A's to their fair share of dramatic victories amid way too many losses. While injuries took their toll on this year's A's club (again), we are optimistic at the glimpses we've seen into what could be the future.

to an often bitter season.

I'm glad I went to the game.

does anyone know

the MLB at-bat or games-played limit in the previous year that disqualifies one from winning the ROY award?

by branch rickey on Oct 1, 2007 11:04 AM PDT   0 recs

according to a Sports Illustrated article

"Right now, though, there are no limits on age or previous experience outside of the major leagues. All a player has to do to qualify as a rookie is to have fewer than 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched in the major leagues and fewer than 45 days on a major league roster."

So Barton will qualify then?

I was wondering about that.

Barton played 18 games with the A's in 2007

and had 72 at bats, so he will qualify as a rookie in 2008

Will we make the playoffs in 2008?

I would like to think we would but I just don't think that we will.  I heard someone say that insanity is "doing the same thing over and over again and and expecting different results"  Running Harden, Chavez, Crosby and Dj out there to start every season and expecting them to to not get hurt, to not underachieve. not to swing so hard that you break your back every single at bat, and to not be AAAA player is insane.  These guys are who they are and if Billy Beane expects to win with these guys then he needs his head examined.
