The Ziegler Picspam

Turns out I did get credentials for the Oklahoma/Sacramento game yesterday and while the River Cats dropped a strikeout-fest 2-0 (there were a combined 8 hits, just 2 for the Cats, 2 walks, and 21 strikeouts, almost evenly split), Brad Ziegler at least got into the game with one out to go in the 9th.

He allowed an unearned run due to a fielding error by Gregorio Petit and while I'm sure that was frustrating, at least it gave me a few more pitches to try to get. Here's some stuff, so if you've ever wondered who's behind "Gettin' Ziggy With It," now you know.

I've got everything else finished from the game; I just need some sleep before uploading it all.

If you see this Brad, I almost said hello after the game but you guys kind of looked like you just wanted to get home and enjoy the chance at a little time off. I didn't want to be a bother.

Star-divide

This one is just begging to be captioned. I'll offer "I can has ball?" Hey, instead of it being a lolcat it's a lolrivercat.

I was on the grass behind home plate to get these:

Back by the dugout for the rest:

Thanks - ah, the magic of media credentials.

That and a good camera.

that second to last pic

is just freaky.

Is the human arm really meant to do that?

by Brian in 317 on Aug 9, 2007 7:46 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I think Brad would agree it actually...

...puts a lot less strain on the arm and shoulder than throwing over the top does.

Before my softball games I'll mess around a little and throw some sidearm or submarine and it just feels like a more fluid motion. You still snap the arm but it seems a lot less stressful on the shoulder.

But, yeah - it looks pretty crazy.

Freaking awesome shots!
My favorite is the 2nd one... you captured the action perfectly, but also the emotion on his face. Great job!

I love the Brad Publicity.

He's a great writer for the blog and it's nice to see him get some attention. Thanks and  I love the pics. Brad looks double-jointed.

I figured since I was there, hopefully he'd...

...get into the game. Took 8 2/3 innings for it, but better late than never.

I think he almost fell off the mound in the bullpen, though. I caught a glimpse of it and some of the players in the dugout did too because I heard them going on about "Did you see Zigler..?"

Wonder if he'll post about that here. ;-)

Hehe
Wish you would have captured the fall in a pic. We could use it to tease him for YEARS.

by IM4Oakgal on Aug 9, 2007 8:37 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Ha. I'm not even sure what happened.

I think he was stepping back from the top of the mound and may have stumbled a little, but I could be completely wrong.

I've been known to be less than graceful, but hey. ;-)

These shots prove two things:
  1. My arm is just not built to allow me to ever be a major league (or even minor league) pitcher. I can't make it go in that direction even sitting at my desk.
  1. Sleeveless ball jerseys. SUCK. ASS.
The Kendall Shift: 6 infielders and 2 catchers.

by Ozzz on Aug 9, 2007 1:06 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

hmm...

usually I agree with most of your comments, but I think the Rivercats' sleeveless jerseys rock.

Back in the old days, the sleeveless jerseys were worn over loose t-shirts.  In that context, I can understand the dissing of the sleeveless, because what's the point of wearing a loose shirt over a different colored loose shirt?  Just make a two-toned jersey?

Nowadays, though, players wear sleeveless jerseys over the skintight modern athletic shirts.  I think a loose sleeveless jersey looks kinda cool over a tight undershirt.

Until such time as players are allowed to wear skintight performance apparel, I support the sleeveless jersey.

(note:  I'm glad David Wells is retiring prior to the onset of the spandex uniform era, because that would have been one hell of an ugly sight!)

I like their sleeveless jerseys, but I...

...don't think Ziggy looks that good in them. He looks like he has kind of thin arms and the long, tight sleeve doesn't quite look right to me. The others in the short sleeves work better. Maybe if Ziegler wore short sleeves under the long..but then you've got more layers on warm days.

Ziggy would look best in ...

... a squared-off black cap with yellow piping and a pair of thick Kent Tekulve-style glasses.

Interesting kinetics of pitching, eh?

He looks like he has long arms (good levers) and strong legs (for push-off); others do it different ways -- Andrew Brown, for instance, really looks like he's working hard, whereas others appear practically effortless, and JoKe always looked to me like he was playing catch with a little kid -- nothing but arm.

That said, Ziggy, there's this guy in SF with some lotion that's spoz'd to be good for those toy pistols.

SF ... lotion ... toy pistols

Methinks thy metaphor is, shall we say, spilling over into unintended sectors.
