Bradley to the DL
Will it ever end??
OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's today recalled infielder Donnie Murphy from Triple-A Sacramento and placed outfielder Milton Bradley on the 15-day Disabled List retroactive to May 15 with a strained left hamstring.
Murphy was batting .354 with two home runs and 11 RBI in 25 games with Sacramento. His average included a .559 (19 for 34) mark against left-handed pitching with both of his home runs compared to .242 against right-handers. Murphy appeared in 23 games at shortstop, one at third base and one in left field and missed two weeks of the season when he was on the Disabled List from May 6 to 20 with a strained left shoulder. The 24-year old Murphy played 39 games for Kansas City in 2004 and 2005 and is a .163 career hitter in the Majors with one home run and 11 RBI.
Bradley was batting .275 with two home runs and six RBI in 15 games with the A's this year. This is his second stint on the Disabled List in 2007 as he was also on the DL from April 23 to May 10 with the same injury. It is Bradley's 10th career stint on the DL and his fourth in two seasons with the A's.
The A's have now used the Disabled List 12 times this year and currently have 10 players on the DL. Oakland used the DL 15 times last year, which was the most times the A's used the DL since they used it 21 times in 1997. This marks the first time the A's have had at least 10 players on the DL at one time since August 27-29, 1997 when they had 11 players on the DL. The 12 players on the DL this year have combined to miss 256 games.

Murphy has just come off the DL?

I hear there might be some available
pt at third base.
I think
the A's need to be cautious with Chavez, so I hope there is some playing time. Give him a week off, let Murphy and Scutaro play, and see if that helps Chavy's forearms. Right now, they certainly won't miss his bat, and, in the long run, might actually improve things.

More than that.
Don't just stop Chavy from playing, get him to lay off the fricking free-weights too.
Haha...
Do you usually disagree with me?

#@$&*!
I was hoping they would sign Bip Roberts to replace Milty. We need veteran leadership.
Bradley has provided plenty of vet leadership
He's led half the roster straight to the DL!
great, so this means that
when they give out his bobblehead next week, it's going to be broken right out of the box.
so it'll be authentic?
authentic for sure.
I'm sure it will bobble for at least half the year.

There won't be anything
wrong with the bobble part of it, it will just come with one leg...

thinking outside of the battered box..
Maybe we should start placing healthy players on the disabled list as a preventative measure in order to keep them healthy. If someone is hurt, let them play -- the worst that could happen is that they would get a bit more hurt and end up on the DL, where they were going to be anyway.
what the crap.
New diaries by OaklandA23 scare me, since it usually means someone has died. I know, I know, don't shoot the messenger... but at least he'd have good company on the DL...
what's the over/under ...
... for # days Chavez misses before they DL him, too?
chavy will never go on the DL
he'll just hit .180 for the rest of the year.
Long Lost Relative
I think Bradley must be a one of my distant cousins. My mother's maiden name was Glassman.
Who will appear in more games Bradley or Embree?
I know Jeff Kent is the original red ass but what was his beef with Bradley. I am guessing that he questioned Milton's willingness to play when less than 100%.

Agree with you and OaktownPower
Nobody gets hurt that much. I think Dude just can't tolerate any pain...and Kent called him on it.
The Bradley thing
is interesting. I suspect that in a rush to get healthy bodies, Milton was brought back too soon from the first trip to the DL. His hammy was not fully healed before he started playing. It wouldn't be the first time the A's management rushed a player back only to see them almost immediately reinjure themselves.
As for the calls for him to "man up" and play hurt, I think that is just silly. The A's already have a 3'rd basman doing that and well, how's that workin' out?

Bradley's the "Anti-Gamer"; any little ache and
the dude sits. He's been this way his entire career. Good luck cashing in on free-agency, Uncle Milty. Pathetic...
which means..
we'll be able to re-sign him for cheap.

free agency

It better be cheap
because you essentially have to sign a second player to play when he's on the DL. There's no reason any more to expect Bradley to be healthy a whole season.

Maybe Billy can find a 'sign 1, get 1 free' sale.
that's why we have 4 to 5 OF's

162?
Bradley has been on the DL 6 times in the last two years. He has a ways to go before he's even league average. For that reason a team with Bradley has to carry 5-6 OF's and one less reliever. I'm not worried about Bradley playing 162. If he was "normal" then the carrying 4 OFs would be fine. However he's not even close - he'd monopolize the extra OF all by himself. I still say he better come cheap because it requires an extra player to fill in for all of his absences.
