Did we mention...
...that he played FOOTBALL for NEBRASKA? And he won a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP there?
What grit!

Third comment mojo!
No offense Brad, but your thread doesn't help the A's. Maybe your hitting will?
Yeah but at least the Sox...
...didn't score any insurance runs on it.
by GreenNGoldSooner on Apr 9, 2007 9:19 PM PDT up reply actions
Yes they did
If everyone gets into THIS one, they'll hit!
oh who am I kidding? We can't hit.
WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!!!!!
I'm torn!
Which one to use?
The other one's broken
I guess this'll do..
I thought the day
That the Warriors across the street would be putting on a better show than the A's would be a sad one.
I was so very, very right.
I'm feeling a double play
JI
JIM THOME.
Please don't get another hit.
I knew Jay Marshall would have trouble...
i think he's only a one inning guy.
What is happening, Gameday has frozen...
snicker
tough game
horrible

We can't get jack
But JI
JIM THOME
can smack a dribbler in the exact right spot. Fantastic.
Go Warriors.
Dernit.
I'm done. I've been nothing but bad luck, watching this game.
I started watching when it was
1-0. The first batter I watched was Thome. I blame only myself for this.

yeah, 4 real
maybe if we use all diaries as game threads
the enemy will grow confused
I blame our offense
The ONLY run-producing hit came from Baby Rookie.
Unbelievable against this pitcher.
FILTHY yesterday
better than 54.00
"Calero with all those sliders...
...and cutters..."
Exactly how many of each does he have?

Sooooooooooo...
...we're not supposed to say 'Game Over'...but...um...?
FIRE GEREN NOW?

<bans self>
<excited that I don't have to watch 8th, 9th inning>
This ain't the Angels' pen.
STFU and kisses
:P
Oh I'
Oh, I'm KIDDING...
you KNOW they're going to hit a grannie here.
duh. I know that you don't give up on the A's
No, but I sure want to throttle the offense
maybe someone should tell them it's the home
opener. on second thought, maybe not.
4 runs?
Pack it in folks. Pack it in.
(Warriors up 25)
That's some nice D, A's
by GreenNGoldSooner on Apr 9, 2007 9:25 PM PDT reply actions
Way better throw than Bradley
Now THAT was good defense...nice job.
Maybe that wakes up the freakin' O
Yeah, we may not be able to hit a lick,
but those were 3 snappy throws right there. I'm impressed.
Runs per game
Assuming we end this game with 1 run (and there's nothing happening to suggest otherwise), we'll have a 2.75 runs per game average.
Take away the fluke 9 run game and it drops to 1.625.
Does anyone still think we shouldn't trade Blanton for some offense?
Naw
Shannon probably touched it. He only refrains from doing so when he has a bat in hand.

Who're two people who've never been in my kitchen
One week to the day since Opening Day
and Milty missed the cutoff man, allowing Thome to go to second. (And since Bradley has missed some time, you can't quibble that he missed the cutoff man within at least his first 7 games.) So, HA!
Luckily, so did Buck--which worked out just spiffy!
Now back to the offense sucking, already in progress...
Bradley's gonna hit a granny
Milton seems
to have practiced hard this offseason on the "swing and miss" technique.
NICE RUNNING BRADLEY!!!!
Good hustle!
"I think he beat it by a step"
"You watch, he's on that base."
Yep, that's why you get paid...
Okay.
Just 7 or 8 more of those.
did our boys
not get enough cuts in the cages this past off season? I know what a slump is, but sheeesh
nice hustle milton

'heart of order'
so to speak...DP..nice!
<barf>
Oh crap
That one guy who can hit is up. Hold your breath, folks.
He can't even tie it up...
<sad face>
Wow. I have no words.
I can give you four
The. Offense. Is. Horrendous.
(-ly miserable at constituting anything remotely resembling what one might call production, rendering any services done, quality or otherwise, by the pitching staff useless.)

he makes the big hurt look fast
by Rudy on Apr 9, 2007 9:33 PM PDT reply actions
Phew
Almost thought we'd do something different there. I'm not one to embrace change.
2B was behind the base, though
He was pretty well protected.
Other than those 5, right?
:)
the a's can't hit this badly...
forever (not that it's a challenge).
question is in what month do we get it going and how far back are we then?
To make yourselves feel better...
Just look at the pitiful performance the Giants offense put up today.
Cain gave up TWO hits, one run and lost
At least we don't have the Giants offense...
They just lost to the Padres 1-0.
Just posted in other thread
that good ol' Peter Happy struck out to end the game. Cheer up, A's fans, we could be rooting for the other guys.
Just send the fine folks at the Coliseum
On over to Oracle. The Warriors are up 30, and about to move back into a tie for the Western Conference's 8th spot.
OH YAY
Lenny!
You know what's really telling about our offense
Is that the mop up guy is in with a three run deficit.
AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
swisher, crosby, buck
back to back to back jacks.
by Rudy on Apr 9, 2007 9:39 PM PDT reply actions
Walk of Grand Slam?
Back-to-back homeruns?
How will they do it?
Who knows
maybe Jenks will suck tonight
I mean, it could happen. Yeah. Sure...
Silly White Sox
Using their closer. Ha. Ha! Ha!
We have had ALL quality starts by our pitching
and we get them how many wins out of it?!
really guys (and girls)
focus your energy. we must WILL the A's to a victory. So focus, and focus hard
by Rudy on Apr 9, 2007 9:42 PM PDT reply actions
Are you one of those weirdos
that believes in The Secret?
we're not tyring hard enough
by Rudy on Apr 9, 2007 9:45 PM PDT up reply actions
At least the Warriors
Are about to have tied their mark for most wins since the time I was 6. (93-94 must've been a beautiful season)
I guess Ozzie Guillen
doesn't have Bobby Jenks on his fantasy team.
MLB Radio
Is anyone else out there trying to listen on MLB radio?
Mine is all wacked out. It keeps rebroadcasting past innings. I'm listening while doing other stuff, so I don't notice right away, until I get repeated deja vu and then realize they've jumped back and are playing the same loop over.
If I reset it catches up, but then it does it again a while later.
Are you on a mac?
Dear Billy Beane,
Offense. Power. Runs.
These things help win baseball games.
Love,
Jon.
At least
They had no notion of dragging it out. That just would've been rude.
Oh well, see you guys tomorrow night
U-G-L-Y
I think it was 7 left on base
well, I got my info from the White Sox announcers
But then, they were a couple of damned idiots, so I could be wrong.
you guys are both right
11 double counts for consecutive batters (i.e. chavez w/ 1 out leaves 2 and then the third out is made by swish with the same 2 on). espn and yahoo would count 4, but 2 is the real total.
Wow
Are you serious? Who would have some dumbass website would try to redefine a basic statistic?
very serious
both numbers are accurate, but it depends on what you're trying to measure.
swisher did leave 4 guys on base. chavez also left 2 of the same guys on base.
if you're trying to measure swish's performance, then 4 is the number. if you're trying to measure the A's performance (or lackthereof) then 2 is the right number.
So if I leave my shirt at a restaurant,
and I still leave it there while I go to the post office, espn and yahoo say I left two shirts? Dang newfangled math.
What this game taught me:
Scott Podsednik > The Entire A's Offense.
Pesky runs. Who would bother with them.
Offense will come around...
Still love the starting pitching and bullpen. Note to Geren: Marshall is NOT a two inning guy.
I think a fun ninth inning experiment
Would've been to see if Jason Richardson or Baron Davis or one of the gang could have hit. They're up 28, it's not like they need to stick around Oracle.
And I'm spent.
a fun experiment would be
not leaving the game til the late innings. cuz if i know my baseball correctly, the better pitchers generally show up later in the game.
second game
the announcers are ripping on kendall for trying to get hit by pitches
