Open World Series Thread: Game 2 - Rockies at Red Sox
Wow, if that's the way this series is going to go it could be the lowest rated World Series since television was invented. I think I might be tuning out if the Red Sox kill the Rox again tonight.
Ubaldo Jimenez takes on Curt "Big Mouth" Schilling.
The starting lineups are as follows:
Rockies
Taveras
Matsui
Holliday
Helton
Atkins
Hawpe
Tulowitzki
Torrealba
Spilborghs
Red Sox
Pedroia
Youkilis
Ortiz
Ramirez
Lowell
Drew
Varitek
Ellsbury
Lugo
Can the Rockies at least make it interesting? It will be a shame if one of the greatest runs in baseball history went up in smoke due to a long layoff...

PEDroia
(random steroids allegation based on nothing more than my hatred of the red sox)
Are you saying he's a PEDophile?
The obviousness is starting early
Jeanne just informed TV viewers that having won one game, Boston is statistically more likely to win the Series.
That's surprising!
I wonder if a team is more likely to score multiple runs if they've already scored one. It's counterintuitive, I know...
I don't think this will be a quick series
Rockies just need to win 1 in Bo town. They will sweep at home.
Statistically, if they sweep at home
they have a better chance of winning the series than if they get swept at home. Counterintuitive, I know, but true.
Listening to the Red Sox feed tonight
as long as I can stand it without puking.
OK, I just literally melted
listening to (my idol) James Taylor sing and play the national anthem. And I mean literally.
You need us to call Josh Bucket?
My fluttering turned to nausea
when I saw Schilling. So no need to call Bucket, even if I look a bit pail.
Heh
new song about the Red Sox:
There's A-Hole and a Beckett
Dear Liza, dear Liza
There's A-Hole and a Beckett
Dear Liza, A-Hole
Very neat!
I didn't realize your generation was still being taught from "America's Crappiest Folk Music", or whatever that songbook was called. Did they make you do Sarasponda too?

Hm...doesn't sound familiar..
Are you familiar with Tom Lehrer's anti-folk-song rants?
Ack!!! I LOVE Tom Lehrer. Was raised on him
Also saw Tomfoolery when I first moved to the bay area.
I'm very familiar with Tom Lehrer
but not the anti-folk-song rants. Will have to look it up.

Has Joe been borrowing
Tim's bottle of Just for Men?
I doubt it--
Tim doesn't sound like a man. Is there a product called Just For Irritating People With Squeaky Voices?
Oh yes
Hate for Tim = Love for Nico
(from me, anyhow)

Oh for god's sake
our first sock sighting of the night.
This oughta be fun...
Sox announcers funny
"They say it nicked his hand! His hand was over the plate!"
Yes, and your point is...?
They want him declared out lbw n/t
Nice
Schilling running around like an idiot is fun to see.
In other words, Schilling running around?
Helton gets the run home with a ground ball
I really, really wish the A's could do that just a little more often. Seems like the only ground ball we ever see in that situation is the one-hopper back to the mound.
That's hilarious
They have an Eric Byrnes quote on Jimenez's "dugout to dugout" slider!
But do the bare naked ladies
like listening to Dave Matthews with Jason Varitek?
So.. I missed the pre-game.
Did they say what they plan to do about the DH? If I were the manager I'd put Youk in the field and play Ortiz at first. But I doubt that happens.
I don't know but
"put Youk in the field"? Meaning the outfield? Instead of Drew or Kielty? Coors Field is not a place where you want to try somebody who is questionable defensively in the outfield. (Youkilis' OF experience is limited to 18 games in 2006.)
Just trying to figure out how...
they could play Lowell, Ortiz and Youk at the same time in Colorado.
Christ, they're still complaining about the HBP..
Seriously...
Fox could make a lot more money if they just showed the game and didn't have broadcasters. The only sound work they'd need is for on-field. No special assistants or anything like that since the folks in the truck don't need it. Just the camera guys and the truck guys. AND the broadcasts who be FABULOUS.
So already this game looks better than last night
Maybe I'll hang around. Already missing Grey's Anatomy.
I watched the first episode
I kind of feel that way about ER now too
I think the best things are the oddball situations that come thru Seattle Grace. But I'm thinking House has better ones.
I'm not getting Fox right now...
Watching on mlbtv and it froze just as Buck was saying "and that ball is"... Had to wait like 20 seconds where I was sure it was a HR.
I'm listening to Miller and Morgan on the radio
so I'm not quite sure what those camera shots into the Red Sox bullpen of the guys tapping on the roof are all about. It's an annoying distraction though.
Holy mother of god.
In the time it took me to get from my car into my apartment, it went from Rockies leading 1-0 to 1-1 with runners on first and third!!!!!
SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whew.
I think I had too much caffeine today because I'm really amped up right now. I think I just scared my neighbors yelling.
So because it was Jacoby
do we all get a Navajo taco?
That looks yummy. Jennifer, can you whip some up
for us or are you only a muffin maker?
In case you care....
dull college football game on ESPN. Va Tech 7, BC 0
Half way thru the 3rd qtr
At least someone from Boston is struggling.
Another #2 pretender going down?
Funny thing is, I can still see Cal getting to the Rose Bowl, if Oregon and Cal both win out. That probably puts Oregon in the championship game and opens up an at-large spot in the Rose Bowl. Wins over Tennessee, Oregon, Arizona State and USC, and a 10-2 record, would be most impressive...I bet Cal would be a top choice for the Rose Bowl in that scenario.
(Yeah, I was in Pasadena on Saturday, I don't think our defense is good enough to accomplish all that.)
Of course you do. We have a big game coming
up in a couple of weeks! Tho' on opposite sides.
From the Deadspin live thread
Can't wait until I have kids to watch baseball with so that I have to avoid their questions about what erectile dysfunction is.
Thank you!
I missed the creepy baby!

And that distinguishes it
from any other situation how, exactly?
sorry
sorry, was not trying to use foul language.
lets rephrase that as "annoying red sox fan roommate"
What?
Tim said something snarky and witty??
I wanted to see the COO of Taco Bell
actually eat some of the "food" he serves up to millions of Americans every day.
Chris Myers: Hello?
Fox marketing flak: Hey C-Dog, it's marketing
CM: What can I do for you?
Fox: Yeah, we're going to need you to make an ass of yourself and a mockery of the game of baseball by interviewing the taco bell CEO. They gave us a 20 million dollars and a bunch of tacos, so...
CM: Here to help!
Va Tech - BC nugget
6 mins left and BC is getting shut out. If they lose it will be the 4th #2 team in a 20 day span. Interesting.
It's kind of nice to see some parity IMO.
Did you see Aikman?
by ohtobe21likehuston on Oct 25, 2007 7:48 PM PDT up reply actions
Where? At the game? I'm just checking in now
and then. I think to see Aikman I either have to go to a Wing Stop or his car dealership.
He is in full Red Sox attire with his wife & kids
I like him less now.
by ohtobe21likehuston on Oct 25, 2007 7:51 PM PDT up reply actions
I was a huge 49er fan in those days,
but I never really hated Aikman that much. Michael Irvin, on the other hand....
Yes. I actually play golf with his uncle twice
a year and he said that Troy is a very simple guy. I would like to meet the guy someday mainly because I am a Cowboys fan.

BTW- I'm not friends with his uncle or anything
We just get paired up on the same team for golf fundraisers.

I'm sure the Rangers love that. Doug Flutie was
wearing his Sox cap but that's more understandable.
I wondered where I recognised that guy from.
Someone needs to revoke my fandom for not getting it straight away.
He was in the stands wearing
Awesome to find that there is a "game"
Let's go Rockies!

Looks like somebody else must beat Boston College
14 points for BC in the last 2 minutes and a 14-10 lead with 11 seconds to go. Recovery of the onside kick was key.
I quit watching to focus on the baseball game
Unbelievable they couldn't even get 3 points in the first 58 minutes.
Not sure how they let that guy get open in the
end zone?? That was horrible coverage especially for this big of a game and, more importantly, in that situation. The safeties should have kept everything in front of them.
by ohtobe21likehuston on Oct 25, 2007 8:15 PM PDT up reply actions
There's a heart transplant kid from
Odessa at the game. Huge Bosox fan. He threw out the first pitch. Maybe Aikman accompanied him? Texas Rangers helped make it possible.
So last night didn't bother you, then.
They already scored once. Geez.
I just had a bunch of sushi and Sapporo tonight. You ever try that beer? Mmmmm.
by ohtobe21likehuston on Oct 25, 2007 8:20 PM PDT up reply actions
Do they serve those BIG cans in Oakland?
I had a fruity drink to start the date and then decided to have some Sapporo. Little did I know that I would need her to drive us home.

Here's something REALLY sad
When we were in Reno last year my 3 in- their- twenties daughters talked me into going to the BoyZ concert. Worst concert I ever saw.
Reno's a good city, though
I was listening in my car in Reno during the Kendall-diving-back-to-home game. Better than a Boyz II Men concert.

I went into it with high hopes, but the Wahlberg
character was awful and the ending was a joke. Other than that it was a decent movie - though with the awards and reviews it got, it should have been amazing. Hence why I laughed.

Kind of funny that Directv is being promoted
seeing that HD locals are not offered in my area. I had a tech over this afternoon and told him he couldn't leave until Fox was in HD.

see you all in 2008
Yep
I'm afraid the Rockies have turned into the Blue Jays, or the Royals. Going back to Denver isn't going to help much.
8 days off + facing a team that came back
from 3-1 down to win + the pressure of the situation + a less talented ball club (thanks to the salary difference) = World Series Sweep.

Message to Rox:
If you're not gonna win this, I would have really rather started watching Grey's Anatomy at 9:00.
I hate the Red Sox.
I know hate is a strong word... but BLEGHHHHHHH
To add to that
I hope the Rockies score a thousand runs right now so everyone in the stadium who is not in a Rockies uniform or cheering for the Rockies in some way sits down and starts crying.
I'm leaving the sound on mute.
Can stand to hear the joyous sounds of Fenway.
Puke.
All right, I guess we hope for the altitude effect.
Say, I know the universe of people who got tickets to a World Series game and were sitting close enough for the cameras to capture them is highly unrepresentative, but that was the whitest crowd I've ever seen -- and I'm from Minnesota, remember.
So...
I'm feelin' really good about that comeback win thing that we were talking about yesterday. I hope the Rockies can win all three games at home, but I guess I'll settle with 2 out of 3 if it means getting their game back to where they can beat them in Boston. UGH the Red Sox (andfans) make me sick with their arrogance.
The Rox
are not going to win 4 of the next 5. They really needed to take 1 game before heading to Colorado.
:-(
I thought Fenway tickets were expensive
