Around SBN: Are The Orioles Bad Or Unlucky With Their Young Pitching?

Midwest AN Days

In two weeks are beloved A's will be journeying to the land of the displaced A's fan.  I am in fact referring to the 4 games in 3 day marathon at Kaufman Stadium playing the hapless Royals August 18th, 19th and 20th.  This will again give us the chance to unite under the green and gold banner and enjoy our boys, 4 W's in the win column, and perhaps  an adult beverage or 2 (or 3 or 4).  The best oportunity for tailgating is going to be before the saturday evening game.  My plan is to get to the ballpark about 2pm in the Lot A parking lot.

If you are still needing a place to stay we got into the Radisson Downtown with a Priceline bid of $42 a night.  Nice 3 star hotel within stumbling distance of a few decent bars :)

Hope to see you there and GO A's!

I'll be there
as will at least 4-5 other midwest AN veterans of the last few series in KC.

Here's a pic of a few of us on the field last year:

I'm the guy on the right with ohtobe21likehuston's AN sign. sprtsnwyn and smith1051 are also pictured.

I slid into home plate at Kauffman that day, during the family fun run around the bases. Good times...

yeah
I'm in.  Saturday, we were at the stadium at 2, and I think that's what I'm going to do for those who aren't going to the brewery, or anything else.  Lot A was where we were last time, and I don't see any reason to not go there again.

Lot A?
Is that a west or east side entrance?  Is that where they park the Recreational vehicles just south of arrowhead?

Lot A
is on the East side of the stadium, right across the driveway from the "Little K".  It is about as far from Arrowhead as you can get.

by sprtsnwyn on Aug 4, 2006 7:09 AM PDT up reply actions

ok so Lot A - 2 o'clock?
Can we have open containers or should I make up "water bottles" and what time is BP over there? Remember, the more we drink the more courage we have . . .

by AndreafromNJ on Aug 4, 2006 7:30 AM PDT reply actions

Open containers
are fine.  Parking is $9, but at 2, nobody is there to collect.

we need a grill..
Since I don't want to transport my big grill all the way from Oklahoma perhaps someone locally can bring a decent sized one for the grilling of meat?  I will however bring my small portable but it has a max capacity of one large meat or two small meats.  Tried 3 once, wasn't pretty :)

by str8tarrow on Aug 4, 2006 8:10 AM PDT reply actions

We had
a small grill, and it was sort of an everybody on their own when it came to grills.  We came from Wichita, so a big grill wasn't going to happen either.  A small grill works if you're up to it.  Unless someone volunteers a larger grill, that's the best bet.

I'm Going
and this will be my first time ever seeing the A's play in person, so i am really excited!!!!!!!  I'm joining sprtsnwyn and ICT shockers, who both went last time and said how much ass it kicked!!!!!!
It would be fun if we could all meet in-between the double header games in the stadium and possibly take some pics:)
2 weeks to go!!!!!

Now THAT's a good call
did they say what time the second game starts yet? Pick a section and lets meet up friday and solidify the plan for saturday?

How about meeting..
at the A's dugout between the games where all the autograph seekers congregate.

Sounds like a great time;
I am from Pittsburg, KS; but being diabetic I can not take too much intense heat and sunshine.  Quit going to Royals games to root for the A's about seven years ago after roasting at a game.  But love good times like you are planning, so may have to make my way there.

Here's a layout of Kaufman
http://kansascity.royals.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/kc/ballpark/kc_ballpark_seating.jsp
At the intersection of Red Coat Lane and Spectacular Drive is where Lot A is.  Across from the Little K.  There are shade trees there, so sitting out of the sun is possible.  Bring chairs.  Also, lots of beer.

My brother..
is trying to bring 10 half gallon growlers from a local brew pub in Columbia, MO that a buddy of his manages. He gets them comp'd.  Of course they may not all make it to Saturdays game :)

Hey-- fellow A's fans from the midwest
I'm staying across the street at "The Clarion" because they have shuttle service to and from the game.  I'll be bringing something special in regards to signage and we'll be sure and get AN some publicity again.  I'm all for Friday tailgating before, between and after the game.

Seriously... anyone from the MW who can make it to the game will have a great time GUARANTEED.  We all had a blast at the tailgate last year and I highly recommend coming by since you rarely have an opportunity to hang out with your own people living this far away from McAfee.

One thing that still cracks me up.  Nebraska was good enough to hold the sign up during the entire game earlier this year and he represented AN quite well.  However the game was not on FSN or KICU and I found out by reading the game thread.  I wanted to get his attention so he didn't have to keep showing the sign over and over but he was too far away from where I was sitting.  Strangely enough people were still watching via mlb.tv and DID SEE the sign again.  Props to him for his hard work and I'm happy that a couple of people saw it on cheap tv.

Yo
Were staying at the Holiday Inn right down the road.  We'll have to get together in between games.  As should everyone else.  Where are your tickets and are you going to both Friday games?

by sprtsnwyn on Aug 4, 2006 5:08 PM PDT up reply actions

We're
not were.  I'm drunk already.

I'm not much of a weekend poster
I'll be at both games on Friday and will meet you guys at the tailgate before the game.  I am probably going to head out of the stadium in between games for more tailgating too.  I'm sitting with my mom and nephews on Saturday and Sunday so that may limit the cervezas a bit.

I'm sitting in section 114 behind the Royals dugout.  Looking forward to seeing you guys again this year!

This might sound crazy but..
We should have an AN day for the East haha.  I'm going to the D-Rays game 8-9-10 so it could work... kinda.  Well, i'll have to represent the A's by myself probably, back at the place where I first started loving this team.  Yay.  </post>

in the nose for me, although, I always found him amusing when he was heckling Erubiel Durazo.

2 on Friday
In Lot A.
2 on Saturday in Lot A.
11 on Sunday in Lot A?  Does that sound good for everyone.  Oh, and another thing for people who are coming who haven't been through this.  There is a grocery about a mile from the stadium, and I'll post a map of that later, in case you get in town and want to wait to buy meat or any other item that you don't want to transport.  It is the only place I've seen that sells brats shaped like burgers.  Oh, and could someone recommend so that it stays up top?

by sprtsnwyn on Aug 5, 2006 8:32 AM PDT up reply actions

We have to go earlier on Friday than 2pm...
The 1st game starts at 4:10 so Lake and I are planning on going 12:30ish.

I'm not ..
going to be tailgating on friday.  Between the drive and wanting to get checked into the hotel and getting to watch 6 hours of A's baseball i'll be lucky to get to the stadium at game time.  I'm not as young as I used to be.  Gotta build up to a big crescendo. Plus, the bars are open til 3 after the games!

I'll swing by...
My friend and I are coming in from Chicago for the weekend.  We should be at all the games, so we'll stop by and say hello.  Someone should post another diary closer to the date.
I love lamp.

Don't worry
I've got a list of links that will be helpful for people coming from out of town if they might not be familiar with the layout and regulations of Kauffman.
