Light-hitting Marco Scutaro

I was watching the game today and, after Scutaro got his third hit, I thought, "light-hitting Marco Scutaro just got his third hit of the day." This was really irritating because "light-hitting" is one of those sports cliches that I hear all the time and it drives me crazy that I thought of it without any prompting.

Sure enough, I look at the AP recap and they call him light-hitting Marco Scutaro. Terrible. Two other cliches that I don't like are "vaunted" offense or pitching staff and that a team is really "high" on some young player. All three of these cliches should be retired right now. Feel free to add more annoying cliches. By the way, I just decided that the worst band name of all time is Sixpence None the Richer. So bad.

Big Fly
I hate 'big fly' mainly because I only get Angels games down here and that's what Rex Hudler calls home runs.  'Big fly'?  'Big Daddy Vladdy's wheelhouse'?  I think Rex should pull a Ricky Williams and go announce in the canadian league so he can continue smoking weed.
How's Kendall's power now?

Big fly is a bad one. Good call.

uhh...
he has a lifetime .374 SLG.  he should always be called "light-hitting"...

ERMMMMM
We know this. The point is that the term "light-hitting" is a cliche.

by Reg on Jun 4, 2006 9:27 PM PDT reply actions

ERMMMMM
now that is most definitely not a cliche.
See, I'm a murderer, I kill what I eat. I'm a hunter-gatherer, I kill what I eat. I'm a steelworker, I kill what I eat. I'm a bricklayer, I kill what I eat.

Cliches, though trite, can be true
And it is also true that light-hitting second basemen have multiple hit games, hit home runs, and make hits at times that drive in the game winning run.

None of that denies the truth of the adjective "light-hitting" nor the correct valie it signifies about Scutaro's value to the team.

Well, you're NOT them!  If you ARE them, what the hell are you doing in the booth right now?!  Get down on the field!

I must say,
if I'm OaklandSi then I agree with you.

If I'm OaklandSi...
...then I'm totally confused by Nico's comment.  And I should be.

"Popped Up"
There's a couple of things Korach says that drive me crazy.. or the way he says them.  "Popped up" is one of them.. (Especially if one of our guys hits it) and "Routine".

"Phhhhopped up"
Korach does say "popped up" kind of funny.

I'm also tired of the phrase
"flirted with a no-hitter."

How about...
He flirted with that mad fly hunny behind the dugout in between innings while hitting on a no-hitter.
