May A's Games in Toronto

G'Day All.

i am planning on attending all 3 Oakland games in Toronto May 9-11. i've never managed to see the A's play live before and as i now live a half hour from T-Dot i have made it my mission not to miss this series. If there are any other A's fans out there in the Toronto area, i invite you to join myself and my friends for some baseball fun.

On another note, i work as a graphic designer for a sign manufacturer www.mcguiresigns.com and i am currently looking for a hi-res photo to use for a backdrop to make posters of a local little league baseball team. What i need it a shot taken from the pitcher's mound looking in towards the plate. We want to print this out on vinyl and put it on the wall so the kids can have their photo taken in uniform in front of the backdrop so posters can be made for them.

i have searched extensively online and as of yet i have found nothing suitable so i thought i'd see if any of you wonderful people could help.

Cheers from Canada and i hope to see some AN action at the Dome in May. Go A's!

I live at
Yonge and Bloor.  I have been to several A's games at the dome.  I am from oakland originally but I have been in toronto for a few years now.   Those games in early may will be my last A's games in toronto as my wife and I are moving back to norcal in june.

I know several other A's fans up here, by the way.  We should certainly hang out.

i have a hard time even dealing with watching them on the telly as i tend to upend furniture and throw pets.
It would be great to have some company for this cathartic moment in my life.
i'm in Bolton (Caledon) by the way...

I've been wondering...
do they sell poutine at the skydome? not that I like gravy on my fries, but I was curious...

I do not know
I am a vegetarian.  I do know that they used to sell it in Olympic Stadium in Montreal though.

^ is correct. Poutine is some nasty stuff.

intriguing possibilities...
at the very least, an AN banner would be awesome to see on tv when the A's visit Canada...

by Ryan Armbrust on Feb 9, 2006 2:00 PM PST up reply actions

that would be fun
I remember 2 years ago somebody had a big Byrnes sign and during bp byrnes got very happy to see it and walked right up to autograph it.

A cool toronto moment, I saw Swisher's first three big league games including the rookie hazing pregame during BP and him walking up to his father and hugging him after the game(at the skydome of course).  That was pretty cool.

I live pretty close to the dome and I have always wondered, what hotel do the players stay at when they are in toronto?

I am very sure that I live very close to a lot of the hotels that they would stay at in toronto so I would love to know, would you be willing to post it?

Byrnes
Did he start by running in the direction of some other banner, and then reverse direction and dive at the last minute in order to sign it?
(That joke never gets old)
Bright moments!

Swisher's 2nd and 3rd games
My wife and i drove down from Ottawa for the second and third games of that series. We were there really early both times. We were standing in the first row halfway down the RF line watching Byrnes and Swisher play catch. Byrnes was on the RF foul line with his back to us and Swisher was in the OF.  Swish threw one way over Byrnes head and it one hopped of the turf right into my hands.

Another guy, his wife and two kids came and stood beside us. When Swish and Byrnes were done the guy yelled out to Swish as he jogged in from the OF. Once he go his attention, Swish came right over with a smile on his face. The two obviously knew each other and talked right beside us for about 5 minutes.

When they were done I got Swish to autograph my "new" ball. You may remember that he wore #30 for those games and as such he signed it with that number. When Swish left I asked the guy how he knew him and he said that he was his high school coach and that he had driven up from Ohio when he heard that Nick had been called up.

As a footnote, I also got Zito's and Mulder's autograph on that ball.

nice
That must have been pretty cool.  I got a bunch of autographs that weekend also.

I think that I was sitting very near to you during game 2 of that series although on the next day I was upstairs.

my dad
My dad's family is from Norway.  Every male on that side of the family has the name Leif somewhere in their name.  My son is going to have Leif as one of his middle names.

Despite the fact that my Dad's family assimlated in almost every way to the point of a high amount of lost heritage that tradition carrys on.

I'll Be in Town
I've never been to Toronto in my life, but I'll be there Sunday through Thursday that week for a conference. I'm going to the Angels game on Sunday with some fellow conference attendees, but I'd love to catch Wednesday night's and Thursday's games with some A's fans. Please keep me in the loop.
