FanFest 2007!

FanFest 2007 info is up on the A's official site!! (link)

When: January 27th from 10am-3pm

Where: at the McAfee Coliseum

Price: $10 ... but if you are a season ticket holder, you should be getting free tickets in the mail (unless they changed things). Tickets go on sale January 2nd.

Also, unlike previous years, autograph tickets will go on sale before the day of FanFest. A limited amount of autograph tickets go on sale January 22nd.

Proceeds: will go to Oakland A's Community Fund and The Okizu Foundation.

I hope Piazza shows up at FanFest! It was really cool getting to meet Frank Thomas at the last one so I hope Piazza makes an appearance at the upcoming one! I also hope Bradley attends FanFest because he was a no-show at the last one.

FanFest is always a ton of fun whether you are running around trying to get as many autographs as you can or if you're just watching the Q&A's all day.

Anybody have some memorable FanFest moments/ pictures to share?

One of MY favorite FanFest moments was the Swisher/ Hatteberg/ Kotsay/ Kendall/ Byrnes Q&A in 2005! HILARIOUS! You can view it here!

What's with the January FanFests?
Except for last year, weren't they usually in February, right before Spring Training?  Having them in January just makes Opening Day seem even farther away...  :\

Yeah, they used to be in January
I'm not sure why they moved it.  It always makes me sad to see the stadium with a nonexistent field.

To make it worse...
Last year it was cold and drizzly. Then it rained at Spring Training too. Suckfest.

Finally they got smart!!
Selling tickets BEFORE FanFest, Genius! Except for the fact that I was screaming that at last year's while I stood in line in the rain at 7am! Thanks for taking my advice!

Can't wait! I am in serious baseball with drawl!

Now they just need to...
...clear out the East Side Club between Q&A sessions so the people who have been waiting for an hour to get into one can actually GET IN and have a decent seat.

Ive gone the last 2 years
So much fun. Always starts out a bit slow because you're trying to get your bearings, but it heats up fast. Can't wait for this year's.

Bradley
was there last year, I tried to get tix for his autograph session....great to hear that the autograph tix will be sold in advance, nothing worse than for the people behind me who ended up waiting in line for 2 hours just to end up with an ellis/macha session

by cadevil on Dec 19, 2006 12:52 AM PST reply actions

Bradley wasn't there
If I remember correctly they changed his session to someone else while they were selling tickets. I remember thinking that it was a bad start for Milton Bradley to pullout of Fanfest.

But I could possibly make it up to the OC. I'll see what I can do.

2006
I have seen the Swisher/Kendall/Hattie video from 2005, but was curious if there was anything ever posted for 2006.

So jealous of all of you in the Bay area.  Heading west for spring training is one thing, but would love to be able to go to FanFest too.  Enjoy and remember to post lots of pictures for those of us on the east coast in January.

hmm, you're right.
i don't think the A's site ever posted the Q&A's from 2006.

Most Memorable Fanfest Moments
It's been a long time since I've been to a Fanfest, but one of my favorite moments was hitting a bunch of balls into the bleachers off of a batting tee.  I felt like Mark McGwire that day. :D

I recall the A's making a big to-do over "stealing" Steve Karsay from Toronto for what amounted to a Rent-a-Rickey Henderson trade.  (I believe that was FanFest '94.)  I did my research and saw that Karsay had a history of elbow problems.  I asked about his elbow during a Q&A session.  Karsay glossed over it, insisting that it was in the past.  Unfortunately, it wasn't.

I recall getting Mark McGwire's autograph on a bat.  He stood up during the entire session.  I think it was because of his bad back.  The man was HUGE.  And seemed like a great guy.  It's a shame his reputation has taken such a hit since the steroid hearings.  His younger brother was roaming around the place.  He was a mini-Mac then, but I'm sure he is a big guy now.

"The bigger the game, the better he pitched."
