BART Introduces Baseball Card Fare Tickets

BART is going to be issuing a series of tickets featuring players from the A's and giants through the rest of the baseball season! the tickets will look like a baseball card but will work like regular BART tickets.

pretty nifty idea! i like it!

The July tickets, now available, feature Giants Kirk Rueter and J.T. Snow and A's Bobby Crosby and Barry Zito.

Giants Jason Schmidt and Ray Durham and A's Mark Kotsay and Nick Swisher will appear on the cards in August.

In September, the last month of the regular season, Giants Moises Alou and Pedro Feliz, and A's Rich Harden and Eric Chavez will be on the cards.

No better place than the bay during the summer
Thats cool, SF State is pretty good depending on what you're studying.  And community colleges are a bargain price for pretty much the same diploma (assuming you transfer).  Only thing you pay for in the fancy shmancy 4-year university is better facilities and social programs like the dorm.  Transfers have a hard time meeting friends.  Education-wise I think they're about the same.

Eh. I visited SF State
recently and wasn't overly impressed. But I guess comparing it to So. Cal schools isn't really that fair. I really do like the Bay Area but I'm just not sure if I want to live there. Community college has worked out financially and the degree will be the same once I transfer. I don't know what these "friends" you speak of are. ;)

by rookieoftheyear on Jul 12, 2005 3:22 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Seriously
Who needs friends when you have the A's and A's fans? Theres good Northern Cali schools!  Stanford for one, and having traveled a lot, I must say NorCal is one of the best places to live.  It is different from So.Cal, but California is just a great state to live in all around.

On Saturday (on my way to Chez Nico) I was, against my will, issued a BART card picturing Kirk Rueter.  I was forced to use it. Yuck!!

by SportySpice on Jul 12, 2005 2:13 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

BART is killing me!
First the threatened strike, now this.

After I saw this diary I left my desk and went straight to BART.

Found out that these things are RANDOM. You have to keep buying tickets until you hit Crosby (which is what I want).

I must've had a crazed look on my face because the BART agent said she'd give me a couple of tickets. "You want a souvenir?"

Then she gave me two... of Kirk Rueter.

"Um, do you have any of the Oakland A's?" I asked, pushing my luck.

No go.

BTW she snipped off the edge of the Rueter cards so I couldn't use them.

I proceeded to play the BART ticket machines like they were slot machines.

This is getting to be an expensive habit.

At this rate BART workers will never have to strike.

I have faith.

OH MY...
I haven't been able to concentrate at work this afternoon.

I've been upset that these Crosby and Zito cards are now available from BART and I don't have one!

I spent my lunch break at BART figuring out how to get them and all I have to show for it is Kirk Rueter.

Like I said, I've been upset. Especially because this morning I needed a new BART ticket and I bought one for $20. If I only knew about this before, I would buy my tickets one at a time...

Then it occurred to me to look at the $20 BART ticket I bought this morning.

It's been in my pocket all day.

Lo and behold...

It's Bobby Crosby on the back.

I've had it in my right pocket all along.

Praise the Lord!

Thanks for your post!
I was pissed becuase I just bought a $10 ticket a couple days ago and now I was going to have to go out and buy a lot more in hopes of getting an Oakland one.  After reading your post I dug out my BART ticket and low and behold, it's Bobby staring at me.  Sweet.  Now I just need to get the Zito one.

How do you guys
manage to miss the fact that there is a picture of the A's on your card? Don't you even look at it after it comes out of the machine? I'd imagine that a different design on the card would be very noticeable ;)

by Melody on Jul 12, 2005 11:24 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, I guess not
I guess I didn't pay much attention.  On the other hand, the picture of the A's is on the back side of the card.  So unless you actually flip the card over, you won't notice.  Thh front of the card (which is the side you see when it comes out of the machine and the side you see when using it) is no different.

I called my boyfriend at work, and after assuring him that nothings wrong, I didn't set the apartment on fire, I'm not sick, and I didn't run over a cat, I quietly asked him to pick me up a BART ticket on his way home...stupid machine gave him (and thus me) a JT Snow one...  sigh

And here's how to do it
Put in the minimum fare of $1.25.

Print card. Check the back to see if it's Crosby or Zito.

If not, put card back into machine.

Add 5 cents.

Print new card.

Repeat until you get the card you want.

Bart tickets
I was at the Coliseum BART station this morning and got two tickets.  One had Barry Zito on the back and the other had Bobby Crosby.

From the looks of things I'd guess that FSN is paying for the tickets as they ahve the FSN A's game schedule for about the next two weeks.  So there should be newer cards in a few weeks.  Perhaps other players will be featured?

FSN- glad you like 'em!
SO glad you're all enjoying the FSN Bay Area / BART ticketbacks. We worked really hard to get these out... so get them while you can!

Each month, until September, FSN and BART will be dispensing 500,000 tickets (2 A's and 2 Giants) at Bay Area stations. BART's informed me the FSN A's tickets will be concentrated in the East Bay. Next month you'll see Kotsay and Swisher, and September we'll debut Harden and Chavez.

You can see samples on our webpage-
