AN Members Nationality Official Survey II (or "Fill the AN Map!")

Hi all. Last month Alex posted a diary entitled "AN members nationality. Official Survey." It had a poll asking ANers, "Where are you from?" Click here for the results.

It was a good idea. I'd like to take it a step further.

See below a map of the United States and southern Canada. Notice there's an increasing amount of yellow dots scattered across the country, representing where AN members currently live.

I want more dots! Please post the city, state and/or country of where you LIVE RIGHT NOW (not your birthplace or where you grew up) on THIS PAGE (since this one's rather long). I'll put your city on the map.

Even if your city's already mentioned, please post it anyway. I'm also keeping a tally of where everyone is, so we can find out what percentage of ANers are in Oakland, the Bay Area, California, west of the Mississippi or some other "general big ass region."

For folks outside the U.S. and Canada, I'll put that country's flag and name under "other countries." If there's enough to warrant it, I may make a full world map. You'll notice I've put Italy already, as Alex is "official italian AN representative."

ADDED: A Bay Area closeup map. All Bay Area cities and towns represented are highlighted. I threw it together, but I hope it's readable.

Every so often I'll show the updated map so we can all see how big Athletics Nation really is. Let's fill 'er up! And thank you.

In what??  Ultimate frisbee?  I'm pretty sure that's the only legitimate sport we have out here.

At least Sac State ain't SJSU
SJSU has a joke of a DI program.  A few years ago in exhibition they almost lost to Cal State Hayward/East Bay in basketball, which is a DIII school, at that.

Right now, that map looks like the vision test I get at the optometrist's--the one where if I don't notice one of the dots it means my peripheral vision is going. (The one where I always psychosomatically start seeing dots that aren't there.)

Just got back from the Mud Cats game -- that's a very cool stadium, despite having the ugliest mascot I have ever seen.  Every time I close my eyes, I am tormented with visions of the awful way its tail wiggles madly when it runs.  :)

I thought for sure no one could out-nasty the New Orleans Zephyrs, who count on  Boudreaux the Nutria to motivate them, but Carolina has done them one better.

Exactly...it's like evolution gone horribly wrong.

I would like to see a show-down between Wool E. Bull on his little race car and Muddy on his ATV, though.  I was impressed when Muddy was jumping the bullpen mounds.  I can't believe how fast they go on those little machines, given how little they must be able to see through the mascot eye-holes!

Best time of the year, IMO
I love spring traning...seeing the big guns and the prospects all in one place, in cozy little stadiums, and being able to relax and enjoy baseball no matter what the outcome of the game is pure joy.

And you have the Arizona Fall League...it's so nice to be able to go to baseball games when the rest of the country is plunged into November bleakness.  :)

I love the AZ Rookie League, too.  I've only been to one game, but it was quite entertaining, even though the players were, uh, raw to say the least.  My friend and I were pretty sure we were the only people, of the 25 or so in attendance, who were not either employed by the teams or related to the players.  It's cool to see those kids just getting their feet wet in pro ball.

Until I moved to NC a few months ago
I lived in Sunnyvale, worked in Mountain View, and was a season ticket holder.  I know of at least one more A's fan in the South Bay -- he lives in Los Gatos.

I used to go to San Jose Giants games often (especially when the Modesto A's were in town), and when I chatted with season ticket holders there, I found that they were almost always South Bay A's fans who went to SJG games because San Jose Muni is so much easier to reach (man, I do not miss traversing 880 north to go to weekday evening games at the Coliseum).

Nebraska...
I'm proud of Dan Johnson...

actually, there are a few husker fans who keep up on where the alumni are playing. there are a few in the A's organization, i think Jed Morris is in AA ball. i don't know what's up with Shane Komine, last I heard he had elbow surgery, or something. I think Jamal Strong is with the Mariners, and Ken Harvey is with the Royals. Of course, the most famous Husker in baseball is Darin Erstad, who, despite playing for the Angels, I still like.

The most distinguished baseballers from the cornhusker state would likely be Bob Gibson (Omaha), and Sam Crawford (Wahoo). Everyone should know Gibson, but few knew of Crawford. He holds the single season triples record, last time i checked.

3 people on AN with Buffalo connections by my count, but only 1 still living there, how appropriate.  I'm the one still in the area, and you're one of two Buffalonians who headed out to Berkeley, the other being Patrick, who hasn't been on here in a while...I don't think he was satisfied with being a mere 3,000 miles away from his hometown, I believe he was leaving for Kenya or something...he probably couldn't post if he wanted to.

Where from?  I like to think I can find any street in Erie County without a map, so put me to the test here.

people from Buffalo seem to turn up in all places except for professional sports.  Well, I can't say I knew exactly where Morningside Lane is, but, despite having three high schools, Williamsville is pretty small, so I had a general idea.  Turns out Morningside is off of Union Road, which I live about a mile east of, 6.5 miles further south.  I guess you could call NYS Route 277 the AN Corridor or something
