A Weird Game (4-13)
It was Tuesday. Ah yes, I remember it as though it were yesterday. I set off from my house to the Bart station, took BART along with my Green n Gold AN Sign and arrived at the Coliseum. I headed off to Will Call to find out that Tickets Services screwed up my Season Tickets order, and I had to go to Tickets Services to get it fixed. I got my tickets, including the ticket to that game, and headed to the gate. Upon entering the Bleachers, I met up with Robb (whom we all know), in the Right Field bleachers.
Note: on the way to Will Call, Ironicaly, I did run into two AN'ers clad in AN Hoodies, whom I showed my sign to before hurrying off to Will Call.
We watched the game, watched as our offence patheticaly tried to fight back off Josh (oh shit not another homerun!) Towers. Swisher's Double was the high of the night, if only. Besides that, Haren pitched relitivly good dispite the Homer.
The Crowed, however, was not there. There were basicaly no one in the stands it seemed, at least, non bleacher stands. Even if it was freezing damn cold, a bigger turnout for the 2nd Home Game of the season should be expected!!!
I put my sign up from the start of the game till the end, and while the Camera looked at it once, I dont think it got on TV (or you guys would be all over it). Robb said it was unreadable from long distance (it was small after all) so thats probably one thing out of our favor.
We tried to razz Rios through out the game, but to not much avail. We tried everything from making fun of his effeminate name to saying his mom wears Army Boots. Even the chant of "Lexi Lexi Lexi" did not faze him much.
Swisher has a new nick name, we decided. I used to call Ellis "MasterChief", since he should be wearing Halo Style Body Armor whenever he steps on the field with Bobby Crosby, but I think it fits Swisher better.
Nick "MasterChief" Swisher. The "X-Box Guru" (though Robb and I theorize that one reason why he did not respond was because he must suck at the Box). Im thinking of even just having a MasterChief Swisher sign, or if I can get ahold of one of those Halo Full Suit ads, and put Swishers head on it and hang it, THAT would be great.
The Seventh inning or so, I think it was. A Homer was hit towards us. Well not quite. It landed near the foul poll where a guy first tried to catch it, then chickened out and tried to get away from it. The result was the line drive homer SMASHING him in the head. It bounced back behind him, and he layed sprawled on the ground twitching for a good five minutes. Some assholes behind us were cheering that he got hit and making fun of him, and he was, as Robb said, seriously angry a great deal afterwards. He got the ball though, so that was good right?
Well, its the bottom of the 9th, and those drunken fans are at it again. One of them is a guy in a sailor suit (whom I will tenitivly refer to as the "Mariner Fan" from now on, because he was dressed as a... ahem... Mariner I guess you can say) came over and started messing with us. He put his arm around me, sprawled out, made exadutrated gay advances. Finaly, after getting little to no responce from us, as we were both trying to concentrate on the game (unsucesfully), hoping security would come (didnt happen) and getting annoyed with him. He left, but soon came back and what does he do? He sits on my damn lap. I had just taken (or had begin taken) down the sign so I had a small pair of siscors in my hands.
I started to cut the top flap of his uniform, to which I am supprised he did not notice immidietly, but for the razzing of his friends behind him probably distracted him. He got up and left when I was half way through, and after his friends notified him of what had happened, came back and confronted us. Demanding reperations for his "$80 sailor suit" (which, btw, must be one crappy as suit if it only costs $80 bucks. If an A's Jersey costs $100-$200.), he tried to get money from us and seemingly picking a fight. Again, I talked a bit back to him and ignored him (or tried, I guess 'Anger Therapy' worked after all, or I would have shoved him over the rail if I still had the temper I had when I was a kid). He kept getting in my face, and his drunken friends were going to do something, when a good sameritan (whom I forgot to thank in the haste of getting out of there before anything bad happened) came over, pulled him away, and calmely told the guy that he had gone a bit too far with his jokes, he should stop complaining and that he got pretty much what he deserved considering he was asking for worse. Robb surmised he might have been an AN'er, but who knows. I bet there were only AN'ers in the crowed last night anyways, with that size.
So we hurried and left, got on the train, back to North Berkeley, back to Albany, and so fourth. I will say that it was an event that just made either a bad night worse, or a bad night more interesting.
Did anyone see the sign by any chance? Gold Backround, Green Letters saying;
Athletics Nation.com
"In Billy We Trust"
Maybe we should get a banner there. Haha, or ask Billy Beane to put perminant sign out there (doubtfull, maybe AN can sponsor a sign through Hoodie Sales?).
It was a cold night and a sad night for A's Baseball, but hopefully our sticks can come alive tonight.

I couldn't see the sign
I also didn't see any AN t-shirts or hoodies. What's up, 'nation? Were your ski parkas covering you up?
I made a point of going to game 2 because I knew it would be crickets.
