Mike Greenwell--Bitter, justified, or both?
I'm sure y'all remember Mike Greenwell...that left fielder that gave Boston that one two punch with Ellis Burks...well he thinks that the 1988 MVP should now be his. Here's the story:

What do you all think? Does he have a case, or do you guys think he's just another bitter Red Sox player frustrated with no championship rings?
I really think he has a point, but that award is pretty much Jose's...it was his 40-40 year.
Also, check out Greenwell's year end numbers. They look like an above average outfielder's All-star break stats in today's game!

Remember, this was the first 40-40 ever!
I do feel Greenwell has a point, but a close race it was not.

Greenwell
Anyway, 1988 was a long long time ago. There's nothing that can be done about any of that stuff now. Greenwell will come off as incredibly bitter if he keeps pushing stuff like that.

In fact, there's quite a lot of justifiable anger about the steroids scandal, and I'm glad to see someone in baseball is upset.
I'm sure there are plenty of players who really are clean (and were back then) who upset over this, and I'd like to see them speaking out more.

Mike Greenwell!
Anywhoo, if you read his quotes, he doesn't sound bitter at all; he even shows some compassion toward Jose, mentioning they got along well as teammates on the Red Sox in the '90's. And he raises a pretty good point. The other admitted 'roid users aren't going to give up their MVPs. Giambi hasn't admitted using as early as 2000 when he won his, and it would be pretty classless to try to take away Caminiti's MVP, after his passing. But Jose admitted using 'roids, said they helped him win the MVP, and is thoroughly shameless about it.
Still, in the end, I think the award should stay with Canseco, only because baseball hadn't banned steroids in 1988, and so Jose wasn't cheating; not until later, when baseball did make 'roids illegal.
