AN Fantasy Baseball?

I'm thinking of setting up a free fantasy baseball league on Yahoo.

Star-divide

If there's enough interest, I'd set it up for AN readers only. If you're interested in some fantasy baseball, let me know and I'll put it together later tonite.

I'm in
for either a live or pre-ranked draft.

by drudown on Feb 16, 2005 3:21 PM PST reply actions

Sure
I play a Yahoo league for extra fun every year, anyway...it'd be nice to play with some slightly less "strange" strangers ;)

by LD on Feb 16, 2005 3:25 PM PST reply actions

Im interested as well
For the live draft we could do it in a chatroom.
I wouldnt be opposed to a pre-ranked draft though

by pickinmachine on Feb 16, 2005 3:29 PM PST reply actions

I'm very interested
I play every year and would love to play with you guys. Live draft is the way to go!

I prefer live drafts, one in the late evening ought to work for a majority of us

Count Me In
The evening should work, if we wanted to do it that way.

Free Fantasy Baseball is dead
http://www.rototimes.com/index.php?sport=bsball&type=nate&name=F20050210092848

Check it out.  You can't sign up for fantasy baseball on any of the major sites.  Get ready to pony up some dough to play.

yahoo
appears to be offering their service for free still.  They had to pay a $3M license fee but it doesn't look like they'll be pushing that on the consumers... yet...

Cool
Hadn't seen that they're now offering it.  They weren't as of two days ago.  Now, I'm excited.

by jubjub on Feb 16, 2005 4:07 PM PST up reply actions

well
we could always just create our own leage (and use espn or yahoo player rosters for eligibility purposes)... more work for the commish, but it's an option...

by pseudokiwi on Feb 16, 2005 4:11 PM PST up reply actions

Just a guess
but I think there'll be several leagues .... and I'll be in one of them.
Relax alright don't try to strike everyone out. Strikeouts are boring besides that they're fascist. Throw some ground balls it's more democratic.

Looks like there'll be multiple leagues...

by Vic @ Athletics Nation on Feb 16, 2005 4:13 PM PST reply actions

count me in
If it's an automated draft, then I'd like to play. A live draft won't work for me...

Draft or auction?

With my job I might need a partner. Anyone interested?

by grover on Feb 16, 2005 4:32 PM PST reply actions

Partner
I'd be willing to stand in for you when you're out fighting fires and all that stuff you do. I don't have the time right now to have my own team (full-time student, two jobs), but once summer comes and fire season's in full swing, I'll be able to fill in if needed.

Sounds like a plan
Looks like we've got a couple leagues set up, do you have a preference?

by grover on Feb 18, 2005 8:12 AM PST up reply actions

I'm in
auction, draft, live, pre-ranked, for money, for free, I don't care.  Fantasy baseball crossed my mind for the first time today, and wouldn't you know it, AN is on the same page.

limecat, you going to be the Bud Selig of more than 1 AN league?

You bet
Sounds fun.  Count me in.

by Jeff in Seattle on Feb 16, 2005 5:11 PM PST reply actions

AN league?
Probably the first league where Eric Byrnes will be drafted ahead of Manny Ramirez... :)

by OaktownTribesman on Feb 16, 2005 5:11 PM PST reply actions

And the only league
where AAA SS Marco Scutaro spends the entire season in a starting lineup. Joining first round pick Eric Chavez, second rounder Barry Zito, third rounder Erubiel Durazo, fourth rounder Octavio Dotel, fifth rounder Rich Harden, sixth rounder Jason Kendall, seventh rounder Bobby Crosby ... and so forth ...

im in
I'm in if theres still room.  Let me know somehow

mydyslexicduck@yahoo.com

WE could do 2 leagues...or do they allow MEGA leagues, like 24 teams?  it'd be funny, the talent would be sooo diluted.

by SeanR on Feb 16, 2005 5:31 PM PST up reply actions

I'm in
I'll even be the commish and set one of the leagues up. I would want to do a buy-in, though. It's way too easy to lose interest if you're not playing for something! Anyone interested in a league where we have a $25-100 buyin and I'll set it up on yahoo.

by Tony on Feb 16, 2005 5:54 PM PST reply actions

i'm in as well
what's the max number of teams in a yahoo league?

i'd prefer online draft and maybe something different than the default yahoo stats...

by xbhaskarx on Feb 16, 2005 6:05 PM PST reply actions

I might be down
But it's gonna be awful hard to draft the guys that I like...

by jmoney on Feb 16, 2005 6:34 PM PST reply actions

I am eager to play
Let me know the setup.  I'd prefer to play without money, though.

Live or computer....

I'm in like sin

by UCD Stomper @ Athletics Nation on Feb 16, 2005 7:51 PM PST reply actions

Definitely be interested. Going to have to make multiple leagues for all these people.

Live draft definitely. Max 12 teams. We gotta have a few leagues. We should vote who wants to be in live, who in computer and things like that.

Yep
We need to get organized with a full tally of people who want to play and then get people to create leagues. Might be tough to do.

I'm in...
...and I would ~love~ to do a live draft.  I've done a bunch of yahoo leagues the last couple of years and have yet to do a draft live.

by jsackmann on Feb 16, 2005 11:20 PM PST reply actions

Live would be tough.  Auction?  AL-only?  We should decide how to split into groups I guess. Down with any format.  Played roto, points, head-head.  All have merits.  Who is this year's Oliver Perez?

i would be in yahoo...but read this....

Athletics Nation League
I started a 12 team head to head league for us.
It is a live draft, starting on Friday Feb. 25th at 7pm, the more people that participate the more fun it will be, so if you can't make the draft wait for another league to open up.

This is a FREE yahoo custom league
To join you need the league id: League ID#38059
and the password, which is: blez

Good luck everyone and have fun.
