Around SBN: Jeremy Lin Sets Assist High In Easy Win Over Sacramento

No Love for Kirk Saarloos

So, I am wondering why Kirk gets absolutely no love, I thought that he did fine filling in for Tim Hudson last season. I know it was only 5 starts, but he was 2-1, and Dotel blew one win for him. ESPN keeps on projecting the A's rotation for 2005, and not even a mention of Kirk Saarloos. And for everyone that thought that he was hurt, and was possibly having Tommy John surgey, well he's not hurt. He just had an agravated Ulna nerve in his elbow. He will be ready in Feburary for Arizona, and will have a fair shot at a spot in the rotation. Billy wouldn't just unload Hudson+Mulder without counting on some players coming up from the minors, and Kirk and Blanton will be the two.

I heard and assumed to be true ...
that he was on the shelf.

If he's healthy, there's no question that he'll be in the mix for a rotation spot.

Relax alright don't try to strike everyone out. Strikeouts are boring besides that they're fascist. Throw some ground balls it's more democratic.

His cousin? No way.

I think
It's questionable to call yourself "kirksaarloosfan" when it might be more appropriate to use "kirksaarloosfamily".
The triple of Jeremy Brown's imagination was, in reality, a home run.

the kirkster
I went to one of his starts on a Saturday afternoon and he did a good job.  I'm sure he'll get a shot with three rookies in the mix now.

Yup
He has been gone for a long time. I think it's a Rob Nenn thing. He isn't with the team, but if he returns it will be with them. Don't quote me on that part though.

Saarloos could still be in the mix...
The A's outrighted Saarloos to Triple-A Sacramento on 10/15/04.

http://oakland.athletics.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/team/transactions.jsp?c_id=oak&year=2004&month=1 0

He's not on the A's 40-man roster, but he is still in the organization. Incidentally, the A's appear to have one open spot on the 40-man roster, which makes it more likely that Saarloos could make the team with a great spring.

Regarding his injury, ESPN said:

Elbow - Expected to be ready for spring training
(Updated - 10/7/04)

http://cbs.sportsline.com/mlb/players/playerpage/307147

I liked Kirk a lot last year, and think he deserves a long look for the 5-spot in the rotation. Keeping him off the 40-man roster may have been strictly an administrative move for the A's -- with the concern over his elbow, it was a good bet he wouldn't get claimed on waivers when they designated him for assignment.

We should start hearing about the invites to Spring Training any time now.  Here's hoping Kirk's in the mix and stays healthy and productive.

Saarloos hidden away
Sounds like BB has kept one pitcher by keeping everyone in doubt about his physical status.  Kirk Saarloos did a commendable job filling in for Tim Hudson in the rotation for about a month last year.  I like his makeup and the job he did.
