How Old Are You?

The discussion of teenagers in the front-page forum about Byrnes has piqued my interest.  What is the age distribution of the regular readers of Athletics Nation?

This calls for a poll:

just starting the last year of my 20's.  boo hoo.

as my name says, i live in Atlanta, GA.  lived all over -- Honolulu 'til middle school, then Georgia, then college at Auburn, then Washington DC, now back to Atlanta.  majority of my family is in Orange County now, so i have to deal with Angles taunts too damn often.  they'll pay soon enough.

Proud Student of CSU Hayward, or is it East Bay?  Closest Public University to the Oakland Coliseum (unsubsantiated claim).

Closest Public U to the Coliseum...
...has got to be Laney College, but that's a JC.

Closest 4-year-school is going to be Cal, I think.

by jrbh on Jan 10, 2005 9:52 AM PST reply actions

I said...
it was an unsubsantiated claim.  I was talking 4 year schools and I think Cal is closer, but by no more than a mile.  As far as closest college of any sort I believe it's either Mills or Patten.

A thoroughly "scientific measurement"
my method was to get a mapquest map and measure with a ruler.

The results:
CAL to Network Associates
33 mm as the crow flies ~ 9.2 miles
(18 mm = 5 miles)
(11.34 driving miles)

Hayward State to Network Associates
35 mm as the crow flies
(18 mm = 5 miles) ~ 9.7 miles
(11.69 driving miles)

Relax alright don't try to strike everyone out. Strikeouts are boring besides that they're fascist. Throw some ground balls it's more democratic.

Your'e right Yankees fans do suck!  And it is difficult to see the games.  I try to get back to Oakland a couple of times a years to catch a few games.  Maybe we should start a support group for A's fans stuck in Yankee country.
I must be the only A's fan in NY. Hey boss transfer me back to Oakland.

... ugh, that CAN'T be true ... oh well

A's fans since '69.  Grew up in San Jose, moved all over the north state working as a sports writer, settled (for now) in Sacramento 12 years ago.

And I have owned four full-season tickets behind home plate at Raley Field since the first year of the River Cats' existence ... and, uh, I'm having trouble getting rid of some of them (hint, hint).

by River City Slim on Jan 10, 2005 11:04 AM PST reply actions

Might be interested sometime...
Give me a holler if you want to get rid of some.  I live in Sac and usually go to A's games, but I've made a New Year's resolution to go to more River Cats' games.

Gee, I made that sound bad
Like I'm trying to quit some horribly addictive habit, or give up meat, or undertake a disfiguring surgery, or radically change my lifestyle.  Going to more River Cats games would be fun!

Age is Just A Number
...but if one were attach one to me then the ageless age of Jack Benny, is the number that would be.
Alright Jack Benny was even before my time after he turned 39 that was it, no getting older.
Being an A's fan since 1970 is a pretty cool thing.
It's like watching the rise and fall of the Roman Empire every 10 years. At least, I hope, our latest version of Caligula (BB) has brought us into an era of "Pax Athletica" after our latest burn with the trades of Mulder and Huddy.
It is fun with my three children raising them as A's fans. Nothing else is an option! My 10 yr old's 1st sentence was " I hate the yankees!" ...gotta raise 'em right these days...

by Gerard on Jan 10, 2005 12:03 PM PST reply actions

Just Kidding about my son's 1st sentence...
...my wife thought was over the top. Actually, my daughter at age 3 would say "A's Go, A's Go... at the Coliseum. It took the longest time to get her to switch that around.
"A's Go! Is a vey touchy subject on AN.
